Roland Sierra Obituary

SIERRA
Roland J. Sierra passed away on November 10, 2011 in his home surrounded by family and friends, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Our beloved husband, father, son and teacher touched the lives of so many with his love, patience, and humor. Born and raised in the heart of San Antonio, Roland grew up as a model student and would later dedicate his life to teaching. During his 35 year career, he inspired and enabled countless students to achieve their dreams. With his wife, Linda, he raised a family in a loving home filled with joyous celebrations and memorable travels. In his final years, he devoted his life to his wife and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland J. Sierra, Sr. whom he dearly loved. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Sierra; son and daughters, Christopher Scott and wife Maria Liliana, Jennifer Marie and Lauralinda "Nicki"; mother Maria S. Sierra; grandchildren, Nicholas Adam, Alyssa Dominique, Maria Josefina, Gabriela, and Paloma Carolina; sister, Maria Yolanda Griego and husband Chic Paul; nephew, Paul Anthony. Roland's family would like to thank Laura Rubio, his dedicated and compassionate nurse, who stood by his side and supported his family throughout his battle. Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Angelus Chapel. A celebration of his life will be led by his family and friends on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Angelus Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Condolences may be sent to the Sierra family at www.theangelusfuneralhome.com. To Linda and family, Roland was a one-of-a-kind cousin, never to be equalled. I will always treasure the times we had growing up as kids. I am sorry to hear about his passing, nearly five years after the fact. I have decided to keep his guess book going permanently, It is the least I can do for my favorite male cousin.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Sierra family.
Roland,
What a wonderful friend you have been.
I was proud to have been a fellow classmate.
You were always smiling and greeting others and never thinking of yourself. You extended your hand, love and inspiration to others.
What a (camera guy) you were.
Taking pictures every time the chance permitted.
You would display the photos and for a minimal fee we would select our choice of B/W pictures.
You made sure to take pictures of all of us. I have these photos to remember you by.
As a fellow band member, I remember you as our Drum Major, you were a-statue-of -a-man, we were all proud of you.
There are many adventures I have of you and will stay in my heart forever, all of them warm and happy ones.

Those we cherish will always live on in memory.
God Bless you Roland
May Father almighty take care of your family.

We are very sorry for your loss; your family is in our prayers. I knew Roland from Lanier High School band, so it has been some years since I have seen him. He used to take pictures of the band and I would buy some from him, for my scrap book.
Roland, you will always be my friend and Gate Keeper, for us all who knew you.
God Bless the family and friends that you left behind, for they are the ones who cry, yet you are pain-free and happy, now.

Roland Sierra was the "poster man" for what a dedicated husband, father and grandfather ought to be and strive to be. He was the consummate family man and he will be dearly missed by all those he had contact with through his generosity and kindness. I had the honor of working for Roland Sierra and standing by his side when he needed an advocate for himself, Linda, and his grandchildren. Que Dios te cuide Roland.

My husband, Charles M. Silva and I Esther, want to express our sincere condolences to the Sierra family. Roland was a classmate of mine at Lanier High School. Regardless of all the pranks he pulled on me in advisory, I always liked Roland and knew that he was a wonderful person. We will miss Roland at our 50th year Class Reunion. The impressions he left in my life will never be forgotten.
