Rosa R. Herrera
January 28, 1929 - July 6, 2023
Rosa R. Herrera, age 94, passed from this life on Thursday, July 6, 2023, to continue her journey with our Lord and was surrounded by her loved ones.
Rosa is preceded in death by her late husband Ernest V. Herrera, her siblings, and beloved grandson Ernest Valentin Herrera.
Rosa is survived by her seven children: Gloria (Bruce), Margaret (Michael), Theresa, Ernest, Jr. (Gracie), Sylvia (Jesse), Anna and Rosemary; grandchildren Rosa and Gabriela Norton; Jennifer (Beau) Blevins, Christopher, and William Workman; Alex Herrera; John Daniel, Eric (Adriana) and Justin (Karen) Ibarra, great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews whom she loved dearly.
We are blessed our mom cultivated the importance of having faith in God and Jesus Christ and to serve others. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church for 60 years. She served as a Eucharist Minister, member of the Legion of Mary, and volunteered her time to fundraise by donating and selling plants at church festivals over the years.
Rosa was born in San Antonio and lived briefly in Odem, TX. At 16 years old, she supported the WWII war effort by working at The U.S. Arsenal packing small weapons and bullets for overseas shipments to our U.S. soldiers. Also, she helped at her father's downtown restaurant located in El Mercado.
Mom later met the love of her life, Ernest, a WWII Army Airborne veteran, whom she was married to for 56 years.
She was a Bexar County Voting Judge for many years, encouraged all of us to vote, and enjoyed campaigning for her eldest nephew Paul Elizondo.
Mom loved spending time with family and her doggie boys (Hugo & Rico), gardening, going to movies and concerts, and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and SA Spurs. Our beautiful, loving Mom was our #1 fan - the wind beneath our wings.
Our family appreciates all the thoughts, prayers, and support. A special thank you to Fr. Neville O'Donohue, Joseph Marotta, MD, Lauren, RN & Ken, PT - Atlas Home Health, Bob Pierce - Harbour Hospice and Rose Fernandez for the great care provided to our Mom. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
