Sylvia Hernandez Benavides, 82, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at home in San Antonio, Texas. Born August 21, 1943, to Aurelio Rodriguez and Leandra Bermudez. Sylvia was the youngest of four siblings, grew up on the West Side of San Antonio and attended San Fernando Catholic School and Sidney Lanier High School. In 1962, she met the love of her life, Alfredo G. Benavides. They married in 1972 and shared 53 wonderful years together, raising two children, Maria and Alfredo Jr., and traveling the world during Alfredo's military career. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Sylvia was especially dedicated to her daughter Maria, becoming her tireless advocate and caregiver. After Alfredo's retirement, the family settled in Copperas Cove and later Killeen before returning to San Antonio in 2019. Even as she battled dementia, Sylvia's loving spirit, bright smile, and joy for music remained. She is survived by her husband, children, and grandson Christian, and was preceded in death by her siblings.
