Thomas Cook Obituary

Thomas C. Cook, 84, was born on September 3, 1920 to Clyde Cook and Mattie Stubbs Cook. He died on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae Walker Cook in December 1985. Mr. Cook grew up in the Corsicana, Navarro County area. He served in World War II as an Army First Sergeant on the European Front. He landed D-Day plus 6 days and fought through the Battle of the Bulge to the Rhine River. After the war, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Trooper. He started his career in the Hallettsville area before moving to the Laredo office. In 1967 the Laredo Jaycees honored Cook with their Lawman of the Year Award. Cook retired from the DPS while working in the San Antonio office. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. He is survived by his sons, Danny Cook and his wife Jane of Texarkana, TX and Steven Ware and his wife Nancy of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Bertie Cook Dyer of Corsicana, TX; sister-in-law, Helen Barber of Corpus Christi, TX; special nephew, Ken Barber and his wife Susan of San Antonio, TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2005 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy. in San Antonio. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2005 at 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Ron Hill officiating. The interment will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery under the auspices of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Masonic Lodge.
