Tillie Roel Obituary
Tillie Villegas Roel, 88, passed away April 30, 2016.
Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother and Great Grandmother
Tillie was born in San Antonio, Texas. She married the love of her life, Fred Roel, Jr. on March 1, 1950. Fred received orders for Frankfurt, Germany in 1963 relocating the whole family there. Fred and Tillie met other military couples who would become lifelong friends and travel companions. In 1966, Fred received orders to Fort Ord, California bringing the family back to the United States. When Fred was called to serve in Vietnam in 1967, Tillie and the children relocated to Salinas. It is in Salinas that Tillie and Fred would live out the happiest days of their lives. Tillie retired from Schilling & McCormick after 28 years. Tillie was an active member of the Eastern Star and was a Charter member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine
for 42 years. She was a wonderful cook, loved to listen to music, craft-making and loved to shop. Tillie would spend as much as she could volunteering in local charitable events and one which was particularly rewarding, the health screening clinics held by the Children's Shriner Hospital. Tillie will be greatly missed by all those she shared her life with.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Roel, Jr; daughters: Linda Griffin-Wilson (Jim Wilson) and Debby Giles; son, Fred Roel, III (Olivia Roel); grandsons, Michael Griffin (Ida Griffin) Brian Giles (Kelly Giles); granddaughters, Stacy Giles, Stephanie Kenny (Kevin Kenny), Jessica Roel; and three great-grandchildren, Grayson Griffin, Jocelyn Kenny and Troy Bell.
Visitation and services were held at Struve and Laporte Chapel at 41 West San Luis Street in Salinas, CA 93901 on Friday May 6th and Saturday May 7th. Burial followed at Queen of Heaven Cemetary, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
