Adria Allen Obituary

ALLEN, ADRIA Adria Allen passed away on August 25, 2004 at the age of twenty-seven from injuries sustained in a sky diving accident. Words cannot convey the depth of who she was or how much she will be missed. A genuine free spirit, Adria lived life to its fullest. She did not suffer fools or accept anything less than total honesty from others. Her drumbeat was distinct and it was her own. Adria knew clearly who she was, and the things that were important to her. At an early age, she set a course of achievement for herself that demanded great drive. Her commitment to an unbending set of principles was evident in all she did. She lived her life with total integrity, honesty and courage and pursued that which she loved with passion and fearlessness. She was a deep and devoted friend to many. Skydiving was her passion. She was happiest when hurtling through bright blue skies with a big smile on her face. In her short career, she performed over 1000 jumps and achieved a Masters certification. In early 2004, she formed, "Team Perigee, Inc." along with three other skydivers and recently received sponsorship support. Adria was in training for National competition in Perris, California at the time of her death. Born March 14, 1977 in San Diego, Adria was a cheerleader at University of San Diego High School and graduated with honors in 1995. She graduated from UCLA in Los Angeles in three and one half years with the class of 2000 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Adria then continued her studies at Northwestern School of Law in Chicago. After graduation, Adria returned to San Diego where she passed the California Bar Exam in 2003. Adria practiced law at Best, Best & Krieger for 2 years and recently accepted a position with the law firm of McKenna Long & Aldridge. Adria is survived by her parents, Howard Allen of San Diego and JoAnn Allen of Del Mar; grandfather Joe Yoshioka of Chula Vista; grandmother Marjorie Allen Shulz of Roswell N.M.; aunts Adele Yoshioka of Los Angeles and Ann Allen Ray of Roswell, N.M.; cousins J.R. Allen of Dallas, TX and Todd, Rosalind and Mackenzie Allen of Los Angeles, as well as the long list of those lucky enough to be called her friend. A Memorial service in celebration of Adria will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita CA 91902 in the Chapel of the Roses. Please call (619) 498-4600 for directions. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Mama's Kitchen, Adria's favorite charity or to a charity of their choice. Hi Adria. It's been 15 years since you left us
If I could tell you what my life is like in 2020 you'd laugh, with that awesome infectious laugh of yours no doubt.
I think about you often. In the good times. In the bad times. In the worst tinea. And think of what I would tell you and the conversations we would have like we did back on school.
I had a lot of free time today and googled your name for some strange reason. Today I had 2 friends die from coronavirus, and thought about how you'd also gone away waaaay too soon.

Reading about how awesome you were, from so many people, made my crap day better. I miss you. You left us too damn early, you dork. You would have made these horrible times easier to bear. We miss you. You know who we are. Much love; you are still with us on our hearts.

Adria

It seems like it was just yesterday when we I met you. You came to Mercer to learn to skydive and took to it with a passion! The time we spent together was unforgettable. Although you went back home and I had gone off to fly in Kenya and Sudan you were always with me, your concern for me after my aircraft accident in Sudan gave me the strength I needed to come back to life. You will always be there with me when im up in the sky, this is my favorite place to be and I know that it was your favorite place as well.

You’ll always be my fairytale princess

Adria, I am lost for words right now. I did not hear about your passing, I just happened to be browsing the Union Tribune Obituaries when I saw your name. My heart skipped a beat, all I could think was "God PLEASE let there be more then one Adria Allen in San Diego". As I clicked on your Notice, there was your beautiful face. For all those who knew you, that picture was how I always and will always remember you. You were gorgeous, loving, smart, and ALWAYS smiling. There aren’t enough complementing words out there to describe you. Even though I haven’t spoken to you in a couple of years, you were always a person that I greatly admired. My early high school years are filled of memories with you. The last time I spoke to you, you were choosing law schools. You and I had the same dream and I am not surprised to read that you have since graduated and have been practicing law. I always admired that about you, your drive and passion. I am so beyond proud of you and I’m so grateful to have had you as a friend. I send my deepest condolences to your family, friends and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. You will truly be missed. My heart is at ease knowing that you are in a better place, you’re home now. Howard and Joann, thank you so very much for Adria.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Adria Allen. Adria came into our lives after my son meet her on a trip to Australia. They became instant friends. Adria always had that sweet smile for all she met and treated everyone as if they were special to her. We haven't seen Adria for a long time but I know if she walked into our home today, it would be as if she were here yesterday. We will always have a special place in our hearts for the memory of Adria Allen.

I never knew Adria when she was well, but was one of the physicians who cared for her after her accident. It was very evident that she had touched the lives of many. It was hard for me, as an outsider, to not be overwhelmed by the outpouring of love on display in her family and friends. God Bless.

Howard and Joanne,

I just wanted to wish you all the strength in the world to get through this very hard time in your life i know to lose a friend like Adria is hard but to lose a child is against nature. The two of you did an amazing job raising this wonderful free spirited person and i hope it brings you some peace to know that she lived more in her 27 years than most people do in 100 years. I am a mother and cant imagine your pain but i wish you the best and i hope to see you again.

Adria was one of the most beautiful people I knew through high school. She had a sparkle about her, a way to make each day shine. Everyone knew that no matter what Adria did, it was always going to be something big. She was always trying to reach the heavens.

I want to give my condolences to Adria's family and friends. It won't be easy dealing with this loss and life will never be the same, as I too just lost someone close to my heart 5 months ago. You just have to keep in mind their in a better place where there's no pain and hate. I know she'll be a great guardian angel. I had the privilege of knowing Adria in High School and I knew she would succeed in anything she puts her heart and mind into. You should be very proud to have Adria as a daughter. I will always picture Adria as a beautiful and bright young women. You'll be forever young in the eyes of your loved one!

JoAnn and Howard,

After reading everyone's entry I feel so cheated that I never got to know Adria. I am so jealous of everyone. The last time I saw her she was about 10 years old. But at least I have had the pleasure of knowing you, JoAnn since high school as well as knowing 2 wonderful parents who brought such a tremendously beautiful person into this world. My thoughts are with you JoAnn. If you need anything I am but a phone call away. Love you, Val

To Adria’s Parents,

I cannot begin to express my compassion for what you must be feeling at this time. I too attended high school with Adria and my earliest memories of her still make me smile. Over the past year and a half I would often see Adria walking around downtown or getting a mid-morning coffee at Starbucks, always smiling… The last time I saw her was several months ago. We both walked back from the courthouse to our offices and she couldn’t stop talking about her sky diving passion. Your daughter was a magnificent woman with a heart of gold. She will be very missed.

I met Adria a couple of months ago at Lost Prairie. I immediately knew that she was one cool chick - she was bright, happy and extremely personable. We even got to make a jump together - It didn't go so well, but when we got down, she just smiled and thanked me for the awesome jump. What an incredible person. I'm so glad that I got to meet her. It's a tragic loss, but at least she'll fly free in the skies forever, with that big, beautiful smile on her face.

Dear Mr. Howard Allen and Ms. JoAnn Allen,

It was Adria's shy smile and gentle manner that drew me to her in second grade. We became pals and shared after school playtimes and birthday parties. Those memories came rushing back after we crossed paths at UCLA one afternoon. With her dark hair and friendly face, Adria was instantly recognizable. We talked of how far we had come since those carefree days of cupcakes and monkey bars.

I understand that there is little that I, or anyone, could say at this point that would lessen your personal sense of grief. But I want you to know that I share your sorrow at Adria's tragic death. No one will miss her as much as you, but I know that I, for one, will remember Adria with affection and count myself fortunate for having known her. I'm so sorry.

to Adria's family, friends, and extended skydiving family, my condolences. our hearts are hurting. in the short 2 years i've known her, her love of skydiving was always evident. our teams were on the plane together that day, that load, chatting on the way up about all sorts of mundane life things that, with Adria, were not mundane at all, because of the gusto she brought to it all. Adria, i told you when i bought your old rig from you a few months ago that i'd take good care of it... well, i'll continue to take good care of it, and jump with inspired enthusiasm. I met your Cali friends at the memorial service. They're every bit as wonderful/gorgeous/crazy as you described them to be. I swear I'm going to make you proud. I missed you when you were on the west coast -- now, i can't even imagine.

Howard and JoAnn - i'm just so sorry. But, thanks for making her who she was ... she saved me so many times (and adria knows what i mean).

To all of Adria's family,

Adria was the first person I met on my first day of law school - we found ourselves in the same small orientation group, then the same section and generally thereafter, the same row of various classes. She was smart, friendly, funny and beautiful - someone whose friend I immediately wanted to be. I soon discovered how rare it is to find someone as talented and well-rounded as she wondering the halls of the law school. Thanks to her, I not only passed contracts (we endured too many basement cram sessions to count), but laughed, socialized, drank and danced more than any other first year law student I know of. Thank you, Adria, for making that time not only bearable, but special. I will always remember you as the gorgeous, vivacious, and loyal person I was lucky enough to know. All of Adria's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Howard,

Words can not express the depth of emotion that we feel, something we are sure you understand better than we do. We "watched" Adria grow and develop from a child into a beautiful woman through your words, your smiles, and your stories. The bond between a father and daughter is so special, so strong. Your love for each other shone through all of the stages of your lives together. You gave the world a wonderful gift in Adria. Our thoughts are with you.

My very best wishes and prayers to Mr. & Mrs. Allen, family members and friends in this most difficult time.

Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to know her as well as others had. I hear so many wonderful memories of her smile, spark, grace and warmth that she shared to all those around her.

My own beliefs tell me she is among the lucky ones that get to soar higher then the eagles and beyond our blue skies. I like to think that Adria has evolved as she is able to now behold the glory of Jehovah's presence before her.

Adria has received her eternal gift as her soul has left this world behind for spacious skies to the heaven's above.

Mr. & Mrs. Allen,

I know NOTHING said will ease the pain of losing a child. It's not right and it is certainly not fair. May your faith carry you forward and through your suffering.

I pray for you and your entire family. May you give each other comfort, love AND space to grieve as individually as you loved your beautiful Adria.

I only wish to offer you my most humble and respectful advise as my mother and I too have waivered through the most difficult days of familial loss.

May you speak of Adria often...may her spirit move forward and her memory live on in her family and friends. May you dream of her and feel her warmth around you. May you come to find comfort and strength in knowing that although Adria has left, she will always be here...in your hearts, your thoughts and the stories you retell to one another that will make you laugh and cry but most importantly, help you get through another day.

Heaven is the Horizon...

It is hard to put into words how people that knew Adria feel at this time. She could have been aloof with her genius intelligence, great career and her beauty. But she was a friend to all, social staus meant nothing. She made everyone feel special. I hate to use cliches but she really was one of the nicest people I have ever met.

I met her father and he must be at least half the reason she was such a good person. He is a what we would all want in a Dad, so generous and accomidating to her gaggle of friends. I am thinking about him a lot.

This is so sad.

I was Adria’s secretary from August 2003 to August 2004, and it was a privilege to get to know Adria. I send my warmest condolences to her family; she was a beautiful, intelligent and special person. I will always remember her coming into work, dragging her briefcase behind her, and looking apologetic for giving me tons of work to do. She was a hard worker, and wouldn’t hesitate to take on even more work. We would sometimes butt heads on how to get the job done, but our joint commitment to getting it done right and mutual contribution of our hearts to our jobs only made us closer. One day I got in the mail a whole stack of a publications she wrote for her law review on Internet law and jurisdiction. As a former law student myself, I was so impressed by the well-written and researched article, that I kept a copy for myself. I knew then she was a talented lady, with a special skill for the written word, and for explaining a complicated area of law in terms that anyone could understand.

Everyone uses the word “vibrant” for people, but in Adria’s case, she was the true exemplar of that word. She was generous of heart and never failed to remember other people during special times. We often would discuss the hilarious antics of our pets and that’s when she would really burst into a brilliant smile. I’ll never forget that smile.

Adria was a wonderful person. I will always remember her smiling face at gymnastics practice at San Diego State when I was a kid. She made me feel welcome in Pi Beta Phi when I just happened to join her sorority at UCLA. Although we had not seen each other in years, she made me feel as if I were her best friend. Everyone will miss Adria and I send my condolences to her family.
