Late, I know, but I feel compelled to write that Brian Monahan was a hero to me. As a new lawyer over 30 years ago, I would make my way down to the courthouse, and I watched and learned from this master of the art of trial. I will always remember his command over the courtroom, and also his green ink "lucky Irish" pens! He has always been and will continue to be an inspiration to me, and an example of true excellence. Sincerely, Lori Mendez

Every so often I would check to see
how Brian was doing and today I was so sorry to learn of Brian’s passing. I always remembered him as such a good guy. He and friends bought an old hearse to travel back and forth to Annapolis during the school year and he showed up at my work to show me. He was fun and smart and a truly caring guy. It looks like he made his mark on this earth and God bless his soul in heaven. I am sorry for your loss.

Brian was the first attorney I ever worked for. I'll never forget the job interview for legal secretary when he asked such unique questions, such as "What would you like written on your tombstone?" I do believe my answer was what made him decide to hire me. I said, "To be continued." Thank you, Brian, for everything! Love, Tawnya Ison

What a wonderful, gifted, comical, man and friend! I worked with them at Luce, Forward, and my very first puppy was from his dog’s litter! Of course in honor of Brian, I named my puppy O’Hara, such a great Irish name! Brian was a very special person who will be sorely missed by all of us who were fortunate to know him. Fondly, Michelle Taylor

The world lost a good man when Brian passed. I never realized how much he had accomplished until I read this obituary.

It was with great sadness that I read today's paper and saw that this dear man had passed. He was such a kind and good-hearted person and when I made him laugh it was so infectious. I am sure that my late husband, Philip Sharp, has welcomed him into heaven and they are sharing stories. Philip had tremendous respect for Brian. I would call him "eyebrows" and he would laugh but one thing I know for sure is that behind those great eyebrows was a wonderful man. Gerri was a loving and very caring wife and I pray for strength for her during these sad times. He will be missed by so very many. I am one of them. Nanette Sharp

Will forever remember his shining eyes and warm smiles of greeting at the Kellogg holiday beach bbqs organized by Federharts. Sympathies for his loss to Gerri and family.

Dear Gerri and Family,

Brian was a classmate/company mate of mine at the USNA. There I knew him as an easy going, friendly, outgoing young man. He was a great midshipman and Naval Officer. However, he certainly made his mark as a legendary attorney in San Diego. His volunteering hours were a sign of the real Brian. He continued to be an easy going and friendly man and we all admired his courage as he fought off his medical episodes. We lost a great human but his spirit will continue in Heaven.

Most sincerely.
Mike (for Mike and Colleen)

To his family and friends. Brian was the last of the great legal gladiators in our County he was always the first on the list. He was a tremendously successful and gifted litigator who I thoroughly enjoyed watching back in his court case just mesmerised by his skill and ability. He was a great asset to the community and we were blessed that his family shared him with all of the public. R i p Brian

Brian was a oak tree of a man. His principals were unbending and San Diego is a better place because he chose to live here. He will be greatly missed by me and all those that were lucky enough to have called him friend.
