CHRISTINE ELAINE BARHOUM

BARHOUM, CHRISTINE ELAINE Christine, 76, was born on May 11, 1933, in Chicago. Following a battle with lung cancer, she died peacefully at her home in San Diego on September 11, 2009. Raised Greek Orthodox, she lived the first 30 years of life in Chicago. After owning a beauty salon in the 60's, she left the states to explore the world with her best friend Nona. She traveled to Russia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. While in Jerusalem, she met and fell in love with her husband Jamil. After marrying in 1966, they lived in Chicago near her family and had three boys, Christopher, Dino, and Sim. As a devoted housewife, she diligently raised and educated her boys while still traveling. In the 70's and 80's, she lived in California, Kenya, Indonesia, Singapore, and New York, among other places. After moving to Hermosa Beach, Christine owned a flower and gift shop for over 10 years. She loved designing arrangements and creating displays for her many clients and friends. Moving to San Diego in 1999, her retirement included family-time, yoga, tai chi, quilting, traveling, eating, and cooking. Known as a lover of food, she was always in the kitchen, and her Greek and Mediterranean recipes will be passed on for generations to come. She loved to feed people, even if they were not hungry. In the last five years she also created a variety of beautiful quilts. She was an artist in everything that she did and touched the lives of so many. She will be remembered with love and fondness. Services will be held Friday, September 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 3459 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff by the Sea. The memorial luncheon will follow at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego.
