Elizabeth Struve Obituary

Elizabeth Morava 'Liz' Struve
January 15, 1942 - March 22, 2021
La Jolla
Elizabeth (Liz) Morava StruveMom passed away suddenly and unexpectedly the morning of March 22nd, 2021. She left us on a high as we had just gotten together 2 days earlier for our first family game night in over a year. Everyone had been vaccinated and there was lots of hugging and joy that night.Mom was born on January 15th, 1942 in Evanston, Illinois to Audrey and John Morava. She grew up in Illinois and attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts. She moved to La Jolla in 1972 and never left. She was a stay-at-home mom to her 4 children and an active member of the La Jolla United Methodist Church. In her 40s she returned to school to earn a master's degree in social work. She re-entered the job market at The San Diego Regional Center and later at The San Diego Alzheimer's Association, quickly working her way up to Program Director.Mom was one of the youngest 79 year olds we knew. She was healthy, happy, and full of life. She was an avid reader. Her latest project was getting through a series of books she had selected on systemic racism. She was a beautiful piano player and took regular piano lessons. Anyone who knew our mom knew that she was passionate about animal welfare. She was active with FOCUS and Rancho Coastal Humane Center for years. She also had a lifetime of furry friend companions who enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle! While animals were an enormous part of Mom's life, her family was her center. She loved everything and anything that had to do with family. Right after her first grandchild was born in 1999, Mom planned annual family vacations. She would rent a house large enough for us all in various locations across the country every summer. Mom is survived by her loving husband, Bill Struve, her children Alix (Matt) Marx, Jeff Mullin, Charlie (Kim) Mullin and David (Diahann) Mullin as well as Bill's children Chelle (Jim Miller) and Mike (Ilsa) Struve, 10 grandchildren and her brother Jack Morava. She is missed and cherished by all.

Liz and I were neighbors for many years when all of our children were young. Our families were very close during that time. She was always a combination of being a very
classy lady and a down-to-earth friend. Always very optimistic and upbeat. And a lot of fun ! She and I shared music interests both in piano and opera. We saw less of each other after we moved, but we maintained our relationship. Her sudden death was a shock to all of us who knew her, and I offer my sincere condolences to Bill and her four wonderful children.

I enjoyed Liz any time that I had occasion to see her, and I am very sad that she is no longer with us. She was always so warm and friendly. My daughter and her daughter are very good friends. My heart and love goes out to Alix and all of Liz's family.
