Emerald Randolph Obituary

Emerald Randolph
March 20, 1927 - April 10, 2021
Jamul
Dr. Emerald Randolph died peacefully at her home after a brief illness surrounded by friends and her pets on April 10th, 2021. She had just turned 94 years old. Dr. Randolph retired from the Chula Vista Elementary School District in 1993 after 38 years of service as Classroom teacher, School Principal, Special Education District Coordinator and Student Welfare and Attendance Director. She spent the next 27 years actively leading volunteer efforts for the City of Chula Vista. In 1993, Dr. Randolph, stepped in to assist Police and Fire Department leaders who were looking for a way to provide compassionate and supportive assistance to families of trauma victims. Dr. Randolph organized and trained the first group of volunteers resulting in the Citizen's Adversity Support Team (CAST) and she continued to lead the group for the next 20 years. Dr. Randolph was a passionate and active advocate for victims of domestic violence, children and the elderly, and a tireless volunteer. Dr. Randolph also gave her time and energy to a number of community groups including the South Bay Boys and Girls Club, the Salvation Army, the Domestic Violence Coalition, Chula Vista Human Services Council, the South Bay Lawyer Referral Group and several other organizations. She created and ran the Temporary Restraining Order Clinic at the South Bay Regional Courthouse and the Children's Waiting Room.

Dr. Randolph volunteered with the Chula Vista Police Department in a variety of capacities, including CAST and Christmas in October. Over the course of her decades of service, Dr. Randolph was honored with several awards but was most proud of the Governor's Award for Assisting Victims of Crime and two Channel 10 Leadership awards for the CAST program and Children's Courthouse Waiting room. Her compassion and dedication will be greatly missed by all of those she assisted. She is survived by her two nieces, countless friends, and the memory of a life well shared and lived. A public memorial has been scheduled for 10am, May 13th, 2021, at Greenwood Mortuary. A donation to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers is suggested.

I can't believe I am just finding out about Emerald. She was such an inspiration to me and is one of my greatest mentors. Thank you Emerald for guiding me in the beginning of my career as a volunteer for CAST and after. I use your nuggets of knowledge and support to help guide the next generation of crisis advocates, peer support specialists, and social workers. The future is bright and full of love and support for those who need that need that "bright light at their darkest moment." The training I received with CAST catipaulted me into work with SA survivors and into helping to develop support services for community and I continue working for and with community because of your guidance even after having left CAST over 18 years ago. You will forever be in my heart and a part of that loving light that shines for others. Your love and impact will shine for generations to come.

I met Emerald in the first CAST class and we bonded right away. She was a strong minded lady with a warm heart for those around her. I miss her calls to this day and she will always hold a special place in my heart.
God is with you Emerald. You were a dear friend.....

I just read about Emerald's passing. I am so sorry. Emerald and I had become friends when she asked me to be an instructor for her CAST program. We instantly connected. Our favorite activity we enjoyed was lunch at the Prado. She will be missed. I am so sorry to have missed her services.

A friend in common of Emerald Randolph and me asked her to reach out to me when I was in nursing home due to a injury from a fall. I will remember her as a kind person who called a stranger just to send good wishes for a recovery . Of course as a longtime Chula Vistan I knew of her from all her good works for our city. I will always remember her taking her time to be so thoughtful and kind. Our city has lost a treasure.

I remember Dr. Randolph from the days when she was an elementary school principal. She was always fashionably dressed and coiffed and was such a kind, dedicated educator and role model for us.

A wonderful lady who was always positive, friendly and so caring. I worked with her for many years on the Christmas in October event and her dedication to those in need was very inspirational. God Bless her family.
