Florence Holloway Obituary

HOLLOWAY, FLORENCE "FLO" E. (SILVA) Florence "Flo" E. (Silva) Holloway, 85, of Coronado died last Friday morning, December 5, 2008, at her daughter's home after a year long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Flo was born on December 31, 1922, in Coronado to Manuel and Margaret Silva. Flo, a proud, lifelong resident of Coronado attended Coronado High School, along with her four siblings who all succeeded her in death. After high school, Flo worked for a brief time for the phone company as she was bilingual and they were just putting phone lines into Mexico. She loved to tell the story of overhearing conversations between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Flo married her husband, Carl Holloway, in June, 1946, after a whirlwind romance. The couple had three surviving daughters, Jane Guyette of Mira Mesa, Janet Elliot of Mira Mesa and Susan McCarthy of Chula Vista. They had a great many friends and loved to entertain. Flo is also survived by her five grandchildren, Sue Buckley, Bob Guyette, Randy Smith, Shawn McCarthy and Buddy Guyette. Flo also had six great-grandchildren, Michelle Villa-nueva, Connor Buckley, Nick Buckley, Nathan Guyette, Grace Smith and Brandon Guyette. Lastly, Flo was able to meet her fifth generation, her great-great-granddaughter, Cambria Villanueva. Flo loved spending time with her family; she had a love of life and was always up for a party. She loved watching her Chargers' football games, gambling at a casino, tending to her roses or enjoying a great meal. She was greatly loved and will be missed forever. A private Memorial will be held for family and close friends at Glen Abbey Mortuary. Flo will be entombed next to her beloved husband Carl Holloway at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at a later date.
