Gertrude 'Trudy' Richard

Gertrude 'Trudy', of Olivenhain, California, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 95. She is survived by her eight children: Bob, Bill, Gary, Mimi, Christine, Cheryl Lynn, Dianne and Trudy Lynn, and their families including 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. Trudy was born in Baltimore, MD and adopted into the arms of her loving father Howard Wilson and mother Gertrude Wilson. She was raised an only child in Philadelphia, PA. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Bill, 3 infant sons: Joseph, Howard and Gregory, son-in-law John Murray, and grandchild Lani Schiller. Trudy graduated from Little Flower High School in 1943. She worked at the Naval Aviation Supply Office in Philadelphia. There, she met and soon married her husband, Bill, on September 7, 1946. Trudy raised her eight children in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Always fashionable herself, and to support the advanced educational endeavors of her children, she began a small business in tailoring and alterations. As a savvy businesswoman, she also began a very successful career in real estate in 1981. In 1984, she and her husband moved to San Diego, California. Trudy became an elite member of the Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate and Brokerage team, earning recognition for her rank in the top 10% sales in the nation for over 10 years. In 2002, Trudy was honored with the "Trudy Richard Award". This award has been bestowed annually since, to the agent found to be "displaying the highest standards of honesty, fairness, ethics, loyalty and compassion". Trudy retired in 2006 at the age of 80. Trudy was a loving and kind friend, wife, mother and mom-mom. She enjoyed dancing and music, travel, playing bridge, swimming, and neighborhood gatherings. Humor, humility, tenacity and sincerity were her constant companions. We all witnessed her ability to turn troubles into opportunities and solutions. She was extremely proud of raising her children with loving and gentle guidance and encouragement. Once asked about her "investments" in a work-related interview, she responded with "my children are my biggest investments". Trudy was deeply dedicated to her faith in the Catholic Church. She devoutly served her church through Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, as a member of the Altar Society, and as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Mom, Mom-Mom, Trudy... You are forever loved, remembered and missed by all. We have been blessed to share in your long life. Your legacy is your many beautiful attributes instilled in each of our hearts. Your greatest wisdom was reminding us what you deeply knew; that is: friends, family and acquaintances alike, we are all so very loved by God.
