Harold Throckmorton

1938 - 2024

Hal Throckmorton, born July 18, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, passed away on April 8, 2024, in San Diego, CA, at the age of 85. Hal was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, brother, friend, professor, and music lover.Hal is survived by his wife Ann, sons Timothy, wife Kelly, and John, husband Jacques, grandchildren Travis and Rachel and brother Donald Throckmorton. He attended Van Nuys High School, L.A. City College, U.C.L.A., and the University of Oregon, achieving Phi Beta Kappa at U.C.L.A.Throughout his career, Hal worked for the CIA, the U.S. Army, and served as Professor of Geography and Meteorology at the State University of New York and Mesa College. He also held the position of Director of the Metropolitan Water Authority, advising Mayor O'Connor during a significant drought. Hal's passion for education led him to teach at the Ethel Wormald College of Education in Liverpool, England, as a Fulbright exchange Professor.Hal is remembered by his students as dedicated to them and their success, often referring to him as their favorite professor.Hal worshiped at Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed hobbies such as rail transportation and sharing music with friends.Services will be held at Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2610 Galveston St. 92110 on July 20, 2024, at 11am.Hal Throckmorton will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
