James Baldwin Obituary

James Patrick 'Jim' Baldwin
November 13, 1938 - May 31, 2020 James Patrick Baldwin passed away at age 81. Jim was a loving husband to his wife Nancy for 56 years and a proud father to four children and their spouses. He was blessed with nine grandchildren.A successful land developer for over 50 years, he built award-winning homes and Master-Planned Communities throughout So. California including Anaheim Hills, Portola, Carmel Del Mar and Otay Ranch.Jim overcame polio, won the National Spearfishing Title, and was a Helms Underwater Athlete of the Year. He was a pilot and yachtsman who generously shared his love of adventure and travel with family, friends, and employees. A daredevil for many years, he competed in the Score Desert Racing series in buggies and trophy trucks.A devout Catholic, he showed a great commitment for his community through his philanthropy to many charitable organizations in Orange and San Diego Counties. He believed each individual should establish their own goals and set out to achieve them within the framework of strong morals. His kind and generous heart and humorous ability to poke fun at himself endeared him to many. "Stop burning daylight, you can sleep when you're dead," he often said, and "Life is not a dress rehearsal." We feel blessed to be part of his extraordinary life. He is greatly missed but we know he rests in God's peace on an amazing new journey.
