Oh, Miss Janie ... you have left us all with so many wonderful memories! You started me dancing at the age of two. My childhood was definitely enriched because of you. Now, when I hear music and my feet start tap, tap, tapping ... know I'll be smiling and thinking of you!!
Dance to the heavenly music, Miss Janie!!
I'll always love you.

I LOVED taking lessons with Miss Janie. I lived just a few blocks away from the Lamont St., studio and used to ride my bike in 1960-63. Remember a slumber party at the studio and going to Gale's Coffee Shop for breakfast. I took ballet and jazz and favorite recital was at PB Jr. High Auditorium, where we closed the show with the Can~Can number, wearing different colored neon ruffles under the skirts that glowed in the dark...lights went down and wow!!!

Its been a few years since I helped to rent your back units. I feel so fortunate to have known you and Kai, and received your Christmas Pictures. Janie was so inspirational, and had such great animal stories. I think of you often and will always remember you.

I was so lucky to have Miss Janie from 1957-1962, and took tap, ballet, and acrobat during those years. Tap was my favorite, and I remember how excited I was to get my first pair of high heeled Capezios. I was lucky also to sometimes get private lessons as well as my class, and it was a real treat. Dancing at the fair and at other recitals are among many great memories. Thank you Miss Janie for all you taught me.

There were twelve children in my family and I think nine of us took dance classes from Janie over a period of at least twenty years. She was gracious and took so many children under her wing on so many levels. Her Christmas cards were something that we always looked forward to. She always looked especially pretty in her red Santa leotard. Whenever I would come back to visit San Diego, I always inquired about Janie. My mother chauffered us to her studio for many years and then when we were old enough to drive, we would take the younger one to her classes. I especially liked dancing at the USO downtown. She set that up and we would sing and dance for the young soldiers in town. She was and will always remain a great spirit.

My three sisters and I took tap and ballet classes with Janie in the early 60's on Lamont Street. I have many fond memories of the dance recitals but especially dancing at the Del Mar fair. It's always fun to watch those old home movies. Janie was a wonderful person who certainly will be missed.

Wow, I have such fond memories of Miss Janie. I took tap and ballet from her in the early 1950's and can't imagine any little girl in Pacific Beach at that time who didn't. She was on Lamont Street when Brown Military Academy was still there, and was such a gem. Now she can teach the angels to dance!

I am saddened to see a great lady leave us. She was a wonderful and patient teacher! She taught my girls, Jodette, Jocelyn, and Joelle Virissimo over 28 years ago. We have such fond memories that we will treasure for ever. Kaj it has been a long time since we have seen you and we wish you strength and comfort at this difficult time, just know Janie lived a full life and touched many with her dedication to her dance profession and especially children!

I took dance from Miss Janie when she had her first studio on Lamont. I was with her for 10 years. We had good times and I learned a lot and not just about dance. I danced with a group of unbelievably talented girls. I was fortunate to be apart of a group that really enjoyed being together. I will miss Miss Janie. X O

I was one of the first wave of students she had. We had a lot of good times and I studied with her for 10 years. I just also want to say hello to my co dancers, Big Tammy, Little Tammy, Erin, Kaj, Pam, Val, Shirley, and I am sorry my memory isn't better to list all the wonderful kids I danced with. Janie taught us a lot and not just about dancing. But dancing is what we loved to do!!! I will miss her.

I began taking dance lessons from Miss Janie when I was 3 1/2 or 4 years old. Our lessons were in the Pacific Beach Woman's Club on Hornblend. We later moved to her studio on Lamont. My daughter also took lessons from her. Good memories.

Janie was my dance teacher. We started at Pacific Beach Woman's Club when I was 3 y/o(1944) and continued with her when she moved to proper studio at Lamont and Garnet. Being in her Tap and Ballet w/toe classes was one of my best memories as a child. I met many friends and I loved Miss Janie. Elizabeth Allen Benson
