Jean Conrad Obituary

Long time El Cajon resident, Jean Conrad, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 4th. She adored children and was always ready to play, laugh, dance, and tease. Jean remained "young at heart" throughout her 95 years.
Jean was born in Wilson, NY, but moved to California with her family in the 1930s. She attended Grossmont HS, where she first met the love of her life, Byron, whom she would later marry. Jean attended University of California Berkeley, graduating in 1947, with a degree in Social Welfare. She went on to earn her teaching certificate and a Master's in Education. For many years, Jean enjoyed teaching kindergarten in the Cajon Valley School District. She also served the community by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and Adult Literacy.
Jean and Byron, with help from extended family, built their own home in East County. Family gatherings at "Hills of Home" were a favorite pastime, along with get-a-way trips to Julian and Eagle Lake. Jean and Byron also enjoyed Elderhostel trips where they developed close friendships with hosts and travelers. Family, travel, a glass of champagne and dark chocolate would make her smile.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ruth Peterson, sister Anne Helland, and husband Byron. She is survived by her sister Brenda Gibson, brother Ralph Peterson, her four children DeeAnne Jones & husband Glen, Jim Conrad & wife Diane, Linnea John & husband Fred, Karri Goldschmidt & husband Jay, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
