JEANNE RICHARDS Obituary

RICHARDS, JEANNE MARY (MINOR) Jeanne Mary (Minor) Richards, born on August 24, 1919, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away at home on July 27, 2010. After her toddler years, she moved to Minneapolis, where she met her loving husband, Tom, while attending the University of Minnesota. Jeanne and Tom often danced to the, then, upstart Glen Miller Orchestra with audiences so scant that Mr. Miller would thank them for dancing. She raised her children Virginia (Ginger) and Steve there during the waning years of World War II. Job opportunity led them to the Detroit area where they remained until years after the kids graduated from college. They moved to San Diego following Steve's previous migration. They took residence in Pacific Beach where volunteer community service became a "way of life." Included were services to the P.B. Town Council, U.S. Navy League, S.D. Auto Museum, O.B.C., America's Cup, Stand up for Kids, The P.B. Women's Club and others. Most are unaware that Jeanne survived the then incurable polio at the age of 16 and lymphatic cancer in her 30s. Jeanne was well known for her humor and never ending care for others in need. Jeanne is survived by her children, Steve (CA) and Ginger (MI), grandchildren, Alex (MI), Erin (AZ) and Hope (CA) and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made on her behalf to the Pacific Beach Woman's Club, PO Box 9367, San Diego, CA 92109. We will be celebrating her birthday at the Pacific Beach Women's Club on August 24th, from Noon to 3 p.m.

Well, let's see..........lately you are remembered and missed at the PBTown Council Dineout at the Italian Restaurant, then at PAESAN's picnic that you always attended at Mission Bay. Diane Chome said she'd continue getting a basket from Trader Joe's for our November 13th Arts and Crafts fundraiser like you always did. AND you will be remembered and missed at the Sat. 11th Luau Potluck at the Woman's Club. Yes, YOU ARE SO MISSED! xoxopatti B.

To all of Jeanne's Family and Friends,
It was such a pleasure to have known Jeanne if only for a little while. She was a wonderful lady who brightened my day each and every time I talked with her. I know how much she will be missed.

When I think of Aunt Jeanne, I smile. I think of her laugh and her lightheartedness.
Although I only have memories from a handful of Jeanne and Tom visits over the years, I treasure them all. I told Aunt Jeanne once that I regretted time passing without more visits and she said; “I know, it’s sad … we would have had a blast!”
Many of the remembrances of Aunt Jeanne were passed on to me by my mother, Virginia – Aunt Jeanne’s sister. Aunt Jeanne and mom grew up in Minneapolis in a grand old house that my husband and I occasionally drive by. I cherish some of the stories mom shared about growing up during those fun and sometimes difficult years. It may seem strange, but I have felt some sort of connection to both of them by just living in an area that was once part of their lives.
My sister, Jeanne and I have talked often about this wonderful lady; how like our mother she was and what great inner strength she had. We loved her and she will be missed.

Dear Ginger, Steve and Family,

I will remember the many good times shared with Jeanne, her eagerness to share a joke, and the pleasure she displayed while telling it. She was always so proud of her family and to share the love and kindnesses she received.

Jeanne will be remembered.

To Jeanne's Family and Friends,
What a great lady and an even better character!! Jeanne was always smiling and making everyone laugh and lots of her jokes were just a little "randy". She was such a wonderful member of the PB Woman's Club. She will be missed so much. But what a great time she had while with all of us!!

To Jeanne's Family,

Although I do not know the family, Jeanne always spoke so highly of you and proud of all.

She was a good friend and my buddy at so many of the Pacific Beach functions. The smile the jokes will be missed.

I have lost a good and true friend.

Best regards,

Dear Steve, Ginger and family,

Your Mom is leaving a huge void in the community of Pacific Beach. Jeanne and
your Dad's commitment to the Pacific Beach Town Council, the Block Party and the many numerous hours they gave to community events are legendary. Jeanne, always with a joke at the ready would have everyone laughing in no time.

Jeanne Mary, you will be missed !!

I knew Jeanne for 42 years and I will miss her greatly. But I am blessed because many of her qualities are found in her daughter Ginger, my wife of 41 years.
Jeanne's spirit for life is something I will try to emulate.
She's been a great part of my life and I will miss her.
