Merle Luella Guernsey Browne

Luella was born in Lansing, Michigan. Her full and varied life included master seamstress, singer, gardener, pomegranate processor, puzzler, champion bowler, world traveler, (Ireland was her favorite). She's free now, eagerly reaching for the crochet needles, her doll collections and her gardening tools. Luella was preceded in death by her son, Patrick, her five Brothers and Sisters and her Husband, Gerald Browne. She is survived by her daughter, Suella (Ellen) and sons Gary (Johnna), Leeman (Beatrice), Douglas and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Luella graduated from J.W. Sexton High in 1944, and headed West to San Diego in 1956 with her four young children. She worked hard for her family. Her passions were creating elaborate wedding gowns, doll collecting, tending her Siberian White Iris and Red Cannas. And, of course, the Padres! She must have made two hundred Afghan blankets over her long life. There was always a 1000 piece puzzle to hand. In her last days, almost blind, she puzzled on her I Pad.

Luella volunteered for Apreva Hospice for years, starting a new web of friendships with Apreva's wonderful staff and crocheting a hundred lap blankets for Hospice patients. "LuLu" was recognized with three Service Volunteer Awards. Apreva's Chaplain Jogy said, "Your Mom was a superstar, the Matriarch of the office." Luella was especially blessed to have Noel and Betty in her life. She was cared for by her children with unfaltering love in her last days.
