Patricia Brendel Obituary

Patricia Mae Brendel 05/04/1930 ~ 07/11/2012 OCEANSIDE -- Patricia (Pat) Mae Brendel passed away at home on July 11, 2012: cause of death was a heart attack. Family was most important to Pat. She was raised by her parents, Laurence and Della Massa. She had six older siblings, Jesse, Anna, Buss, John, Pauline and Betty. Pat had varied professional experiences that included working as an operator for Pacific Telephone, salesperson for Emmons Jewelry and Shaklee, school bus driver for Roesch Lines, office services at J.C. Penney, The Broadway, Ellico Ford, and Overlook Hospital, as well as employment with Welcome Wagon and Weight Watchers. Pat participated in many civic organizations, serving as President for the following groups: Solana Beach Women's Civic Club, the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary, and the Fallbrook Garden Club. She attained the level of National Garden Club Emeritus-Master Judge for flower shows. She was presented with the Golden Achievement Award in 1992 for Scholastic Excellence by California Garden Clubs, Inc. Judges Council. In recent years, Pat was a member of the Ocean Hills Garden Club. One of Pat's many accomplishments was the fact that she obtained her private and commercial pilot's license. She flew all types of single- engine planes out of Riverside's Flabob Airport in the 1970s. Pat was honest, intelligent, capable, and caring. She had strong beliefs and she was respected for sharing her feelings. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew her. Pat is survived by her loving husband, Walt ~ they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past May; her sons, Nick, Al and Steve; as well as daughters-in-law, Lisa and Cathy; and grandsons, Derek, Preston, and Kyle. A family and friend's gathering will be held at 12 noon, on Saturday, August 11, at Nick and Lisa Brendel's home in Rancho Bernardo. I have very fond memories of Pat from my childhood, one in particular was when she flew her plane to Cameron Park, CA to visit with us all, Grandpa and Grandma (John & Kitty Massa), Mom (Toni Massa Cadigan), Dad (John Bassett) and my brothers (Michael & Jason). It was my first small plane ride, I will never forget it or Pat. Best wishes and much love to Walt and family.

With love and condolences,

It was with deep sorrow we heard of Pat's passing. One of my fondest memories will be the trip to Oregon for a Rose seminar with Pat and Walt in the late 90's. I know she was loved by all her extended family, love that she returned with grace.

My deepest condolences to the family of Pat. She was a wonderful woman and full of spirit! I knew her when a member of the Fallbrook Garden club. She and her dear husband Walt were dedicated members and were most knowledgeble in things to do with gardening. Her accomplishments are many and Pat will be so very missed by all her knew and loved her! I will always have fond memories of Pat.
Fondly, Cathy Wall
