Robert Jeffrey "Bobby" Embrey

Robert Embrey Obituary

Robert Jeffrey "Bobby" Embrey, 63 ESCONDIDO -- Robert J. "Bobby" Embrey was born on August 1, 1949 in San Diego. He passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 with his wife Ruth Ann by his side. Bobby and Ruth Ann were married for 35 years. He is survived by his two sons, Matt (Rebecca) of Murrieta, and Jonathan (Misty) of Escondido; and a daughter, Anna of Glendale, Arizona. Jonathon and Misty gave him two beautiful granddaughters, Kaylee and Faith. Also by brothers, Mark (Patti) of Poway, and Dan (Kathy) of Escondido who added three nieces and three nephews to the many family vacations and memorable Christmas parties. He is also survived by his parents, Chick and Ann Embrey of Escondido; brother-in-law, Arvel Eicher (Linda) of Escondido; and aunts, Virginia of Tucson, Arizona, and Bobbee (Gordon) Steward of Ventura. Bobby attended Central School, Del Dios Junior High and was an aggressive defensive back in football (at 140 lbs) and an outstanding middle-distance runner at Escondido High School. After graduation in 1967, he attended Biola University for two years before transferring to SDSU as an education major. The high-light of his Aztec experience came when as a P.E. major, Coach Don Coryell carried him on the "taxi" team for two memorable seasons. Finishing college, he began a 25-year employment with the Escondido Elementary School District. Initially, he taught P.E. at Del Dios with his close friend, Paul Kinder, then moved to Grant Junior High and ended his career as a district wide Special Education Teacher. Bobby also helped from time to time in the Escondido High football program, both as a scout and coach. He culminated his coaching career as Varsity Coach Denny Snyder's JV Coach, winning the Avo League title in 1979. Bobby continued his Special Education teaching until his on-going battle with a brain tumor finally forced his early retirement in 1998. This is when his wife, Ruth Ann, retired from her teaching career and took on a new role as an "incredible" care giver. Fighting insurance companies, putting up with government red-tape while balancing her life as wife, mother and grand-mother only served to increase her and Bobby's faith in a God who has promised not to test us beyond what we can handle. (1st Corinthians 10:13). Psalms 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the passing of his saints. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, October 6, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. Felicita Avenue, Escondido. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Wycliffe Bible Translators P. O. Box 628200 Orlando, FL 32862. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Ruth Ann and family you are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember seeing the engagement ring on your finger and watching you and your soon to be husband eating lunch together at Grant. As a student in your class I would draw pictures of the two of you on your wedding day. (I thought you were so beautiful and I wanted to grow up to be a teacher just like you). You were my inspiration then and you continued to inspire many with the dedication and love you showed to your husband. God bless you and the entire Embrey family as you deal with this loss.

Ruth Anne-

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I agree that you are "incredible," and he was very lucky to have you by his side. Now he is by God's side, and I wish you happiness until you meet again. I would like to attend the memorial but Angie has a band competition I need to attend that day. I will be with you in spirit, for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with you! I have thought about you a lot lately; now I know why (I just read the news on our EUSD mail, I'm a little slow). Again, I am so sorry, even knowing death is not the end, it must be hard. Take care, my friend, and I will not even mention composting.
Love, Janet and Angie Griffin
