Robert Thimm Obituary
Robert Max Bob' Thimm February 23, 1928 - March 11, 2018 National City Robert Max Thimm, born in Newton, KS, was known as Bob by his friends and family. After high school he joined the Marines in 1946 and was sent to San Diego and then to El Toro. When he was honorably discharged in 1947, he returned to Wichita, KS, and became a high tolerance machinist. He met and married Mary Lou Plamann on 9/5/1948. In 1956 the family moved to Albuquerque, NM, where Bob worked at Sandia Base. In 1967 they moved to Chula Vista, CA, and Bob worked at Rohr Industries and later Gulf General Atomic. After that he continued to work for a medical company machining intricate parts for use in heart valves. He then worked for a company in El Cajon until his retirement in 1993. His employer continued to call him back when he needed specialized parts made. In 2015, Bob and Mary moved to Paradise Village in National City. Bob was a very giving person with his love, laughter and caring. As a member of the Chula Vista Presbyterian Church, he was an usher and a Deacon on a regular basis. He also volunteered for the Senior Patrol with the Chula Vista Police Department. He loved baseball, especially the San Diego Padres. He always had a great time listening to, watching, and being at the baseball games! Bob missed his wife, Mary, after her death on 7/1/2017, but he loved smiling and loving his dear family members from Salt Lake City and Park City Utah: son and daughter-in-law Doug and Sally Thimm, grandson and his wife Robbie and Astin Thimm, and 2 great-granddaughters Sophia and Sadie Thimm, grandson Mark Thimm, granddaughter Cassie Thimm and great-granddaughter Malia Thimm, and Chula Vista resident, daughter Becky Thimm. He has many other "loving family members" that miss him dearly. A military interment ceremony at Miramar National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life service at Parkview at Paradise Village was held on Friday, April 27, 2018. Minister Bob Davis of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church was kind enough to provide his services. The family wishes to express their thanks to Parkview Memory Care for their devotion and loving care.
