December 15, 1958 - August 13, 2021
Ruth Richards was an incredibly kind and loving person who placed her love and hope in what mattered most to her family and friends. She considered them the greatest blessing in her life. Ruth was born in East Los Angeles, CA, to Joseph and Muriel Richards. She graduated from Wright Brothers Alternative High School in San Diego, CA. She recently retired from the San Diego School District.
While traveling the world in her earlier years, Ruth developed a great appreciation for the people of the world, cultures, music, art, architecture, and photography. Ruth had a wonderful eye for photography that captured that particular moment in time. Ruth had an affinity and great love for children. She was present at the birth of her nephew and grandniece and loved talking to the little girl next door. The nephews and grandnieces were one of Ruth's greatest joys.
While prudent in her finances, Ruth was an avid philanthropist. Her generosity would support education of young girls often in third world countries. Ruth understood suffering but turned that into one of her greatest strengths. She would frequently search out local aid projects in many of the world's vulnerable situations and contribute with her generosity. In her acts of kindness, she lessened a bit her own pain at the same time. Ruth was incredibly well read and loved to learn. She was, we like to say, a seeker of knowledge. She enjoyed writing although she tended to keep it to herself. She was a very private person, but she would always share her infectious laugh, a unique flair, and a great sense of humor. She was also outspoken, and you could always rely on her to tell you the truth, even if you didn't want to hear it. Sadly, her health was not the best, and we lost her too soon. But the memories we have, whether in our hearts, photos, or writings, will follow us through our lives every day.
Ruth is survived by her brother Timothy and her sisters Mary, Elizabeth, and Stephanie. Sadly, her siblings Mark, Rebecca, and Christopher preceded her death, but they were forever in her heart as Ruth will now be in ours.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 15, 2022, in San Diego, CA. Please inquiry with the family for further details.
