Ryan Currie Obituary

Ryan William Currie passed away unexpectedly on March 17th, 2024. He was 48.Born October 2, 1975, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Ryan grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While at Forest Hills High School, Ryan excelled as a scholar-athlete. He also met the love of his life and future wife, Megan Janine Beatty. Ryan went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he continued his academic and athletic excellence playing both hockey and rugby, as well as graduating with high honors. Ryan then served his country through three tours in Iraq as a U.S. Army Captain with the 101st Airborne Division, where he earned the Army Commendation Medal. He also earned a master's degree in engineering management from St. Martin's College. Following his time in the Army, Ryan and Megan moved to California, where he launched a successful, 20-year career building large-scale retirement communities, thereby substantially contributing to our country's mission to provide safe, secure housing for seniors. Humble, fun, and known for his easygoing smile, Ryan stared down life's challenges with a fierce strength of character. To his family, he was Superman, showcasing an extraordinary ability to make others feel special. Also called Rocket, Ryan embodied a never-ending commitment to spending time with his family, all of whom he adored.Loyal and true, Ryan stood by and supported his wife Megan through her long, courageous battle with cancer. Five years to the day after her passing, Ryan joined her in heaven. Ryan and Megan are survived by their four children, Connor (22), Caitlin (20), Casey (19), and Cami (17), who represent the very finest of their parents' character, strength, and loyalty. Sometimes called the "Four Cs," Ryan's kids were the light of his life. They gave him boundless, enduring pride and joy.In addition to his wife, Megan, Ryan was predeceased by his mother, Janice Lynn Currie (DeBoer) and his brother Jason Saunders Currie. In addition to his kids, Ryan is survived by his father William, brother Mike Currie (Melissa), sister Courtney Currie Bianchi (Alex), as well as brother-in-law Kevin Beatty (Denise), sisters-in-law Brianna Spencer (Allen) and Erin Brady (Matt), and parents-in-law Chuck and Debbie Beatty. He is also survived by 16 loving nieces and nephews, as well as a broad group of friends. Arrangements for a memorial service will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 5431, or Next Peak. Ryan's life burned brightly as a model of devotion and service to family, friends, business, and country. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of many. To the whole Currie family,
I think of all of you and of Ryan often. I still cannot believe that he is gone. I held him in very regard and always had deep respect for him. I have many great memories of him growing up and think back fondly of our time together in middle school and high school. You all are in my thoughts and prayers

I am so saddened to learn of Ryan's passing, and I offer my deepest condolences to the entire Currie family.
To Connor, Caitlin, Casey and Cami, I grew up with your dad and Uncle Mike in Grand Rapids. After your uncle and I graduated high school, I went to West Point where your dad joined a few years later. He was a great cadet, because he was a great person. While we lost touch after I graduated, I was not at all surprised to see that he served nobly in the Army and then continued to help others through his service to seniors through his housing work. As you know, he had a huge heart, filled with love for other people. Please know I'm thinking of each of you as you navigate this most difficult time without him and your mom.
To Mike, I'm so sorry. While no words erase the pain of losing your sibling (I lost my sister two years ago), I want to offer you the peace of knowing that one day there will be more smiles accompanying your memories than tears.
To Mr. Currie, please know that I'm thinking of you all and am dearly sorry. You raised a wonderful family and I know you are very proud of each of your children and grandchildren. My prayers are with you all.

I remember when Ryan was born in Lancaster PA. I lived in. New Jersey wuth my then husband Walter Reed. We visited our friends Jan and Bill whom we knew having been former students at Hope College. Ryan was born a year after our first son Travis on October 2. Jan and Bill and I spent time together at a West Point football game when Ryan and our son Walter were attending West Point. I was so sad at Janice´s passing. My sincerest condolences to Bill and his family. Walter is currently a Colonel in the Army (3 tours: 1 Afghanistan and 2in Iraq. and Travis is a general surgeon in AZ where we are living. Again so so sorry about Ryan.

Words cannot express how much it saddened my heart to hear about Ryan´s passing. I had the opportunity to open one of the senior communities with Ryan. He always had a smile on his face and it was contagious. You could be having the worse day and head up to the office to talk about it...there was Ryan with his big ol´ grin. Bad day gone. My deepest condolences go out to his beautiful children. May his legacy live on through them.

As a former hockey team mate and neighbor, my wife and daughters are devastated about this tragedy. I spent many nights talking puck over beers with Ryan and have only the fondest memories of him as he was always smiling, even when he was punching other players in the face:) We offer our deepest prayers and sympathy for all his friends and family as he was truly a shining light in the eyes of anyone who met him. We pray for peace for everyone and will always remember his infectious laugh and smile! RIP Ryan Currie

We never met Ryan but are friends with his Aunt Bonnie and Uncle John! Seeing them hurt by the suddenness of this loss and their worry about his family makes me know he was the glue that held this amazingly strong family together. But his legacy will carry them through and both Megan and Ryan will continue to shine through these kids! May God Grant comfort during this difficult time.
