Steve was a super high achiever both personally and professionally and somehow found time to contribute to his church and community. He was a source of inspiration right up until his final days. I was fortunate to have known him and being reminded of his passing brings back many fond memories, along with sadness that he is no longer with us. My condolences to Theresa, Adam, and Steve´s parents. May he be remembered always

I just saw the news and was shocked by it. I met Steve at 2013 JPM. He impressed me as someone who was thoughtful and considerate. I visited his company in San Diego a few months later and enjoyed talking to him. I am very sorry to hear about his passing. My condolence to his family.

Sending my profoundest condolences to Steve's family. I knew Steve from grade school in Genesee, NY. I knew him as a very kind and caring person. So proud of his accomplishments in life. A highly commendable life. I pray for his family and thinking of them in this time & wishing them comfort in the days to come.

Memories of those we love live forever in our hearts. May the Lord be forever in the hearts of all his family and friends.

Teresa and Adam, I am so sorry to learn of Steve's passing. I experienced Steve as a wonderful, kind and considerate man. I learned so much when I supported him at Quanticel Pharmaceuticals and he has been a supportive reference for me when I needed him to be. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Steve's obituary says it all so its understandable that he will be missed by ALL who knew him--his family, friends, community, co-workers, industry veterans, etc. etc. He lived an exemplary life that should serve as an inspiration to all of us as we carry the torch that was taken from his hands much too soon.

I got to know Steve as he was transitioning from Lilly to Syrrx. He is the prototype of the rare executive who transitions from "big pharma" seamlessly. He taught me approaches to clear thinking and board management. I'll be forever grateful and will miss him.

I would like to think that when someone asks me for advice, opinion, time, etc., that I will be as forthcoming, gracious, and generous as Steve was to many, including myself. He is a role model and mentor. May his memory live on.

I just saw the news and cant quite believe it! I got to know Steve at Ambrx, he was just a wonderful person, so kind and straightforward. A great leader and a terrifc and sharp scientist with a good sense of humour. The World is a poorer place without Steve. My sincere condolences to the Teresa and family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I had the pleasure of recruiting Steve and his family to San Diego and Syrrx and watching him grow into a remarkable entrepreneur. He also became pretty good at golf! It was also a privilege to work with Steve on a board as well. But I really appreciated his friendship and integrity. His commitment to drug discovery was incredible and he persevered to the end.

He loved to serve in many ways and that is the greatest tribute I can give, including to his family and to his Maker! Steve, I wish I could have thanked you one more time for being my colleague and friend. You made a difference!

I just very recently heard of Steve's illness and was shocked to see his obituary. Steve was the best of people and positively enhanced the lives of everyone around him. He was a tremendous influence on my life and I will be forever indebted to him for his countless hours of mentoring and friendship. His was truly a "Life Worth Living" and he will be missed by everyone especially me.

This is shocking news to me. Steve was a friend and an early contributor to combinatorial chemistry, helping to start the ACS journal. I can hardly believe he's passed.

Steve was a splendid scientist, friend and human being. I have many fond memories from our 2 years at Harvard in the 1980´s and from subsequent interactions during his time at Lilly. He was a great help to me and my career. Thank you Steve. RIP

He was one of the mentos & inspirations when I just joined Lilly in 1997 from academics in Discovery Chemistry. Combinatorial Chemistry was coming up at that time & he gave me tremendous opportunities to Research in Combinatorial Chemistry. I learned enormously from him.

His loss is irreparable to the society, community & in the Pharma-Biotech industry.

I can´t ever express my words of gratitude that I had and have for him.

I am lost if words. He went too soon too untimely

Deepest Regards,

So sorry to hear of this great loss to our community and world. I worked with Steve off and on since the early 2000's helping to build talent and excellence in his scientific teams. He was a man of intellect, candor, and vision and will be missed by MANY.
