Thomas Peter Goethel "Peter" died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Missouri Baptist Hospital of respiratory arrest, not Covid related.Born, July 17, 1926, in Duluth, Minnesota, St. Louis County. He lived in Ellisville, Missouri, for the past five years. Previously lived in Southern California and Sudbury, Massachusetts. He was a Mechanical Engineer from Northeastern University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Northeastern University, College of Engineering, in June of 1953. He also was a Registered Professional Engineer. Granted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Board of Registration of Profession Engineers and of Land Surveyors in February of 1960. He was of the Episcopal faith.He was widowed in January 2003 to his sweetheart of over 55 years, Eleanor Elizabeth Goethel "Ollie," who passed away at 76 in January 2003. He is survived by his sons, Peter E. Goethel of Oceanside; Karl James Goethel on Denver, NC; Steven Peter Goethel of Julian, CA and his daughter Janet E. Lyon of Ellisville, MO. He had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Peter lived a full life and had a variety of hobbies. Including boating, fishing, woodworking, and was a crossword puzzle, Sudoku aficionado. He enlisted in The Coast Guard in 1943 at 17 and served in World War II. These were some of his fondest memories. He also loved to hunt and fish with his buddies in Canada,His cremains will be placed in Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Point Loma, California, next to his beloved wife. He will have a military burial with Coast Guard Honors, which he strongly wanted, the ceremony will take place Thursday, August 26, 9am at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Point Loma. He loved his country and saluted the flag every morning.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the American Lung Association.
