Thomas Charles Stickel

1949 - 2022

Thomas Charles Stickel, 72, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2022.
Born in Yakima, WA to Charles and Ann Stickel, he was the youngest brother to his sisters Ruth Ann and Barbara.
Tom was an energetic, smart, and fun child who grew up to be a very popular, well liked, and social teenager. He was a bright student, solid athlete, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Dad. Additionally, he was a prankster and loved to tease his big sisters. His childhood, college, and adult friendships were an essential part of his life and he was always up for a good time.
Tom graduated from San Diego State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from the University of Southern California in 1976 with a Master of Public Administration degree.
Tom started his business career in banking. At the age of 28 he quit his job to form Point Loma Savings & Loan/Bank of Southern California, the first in a string of many successful business ventures. Tom was a charismatic entrepreneur and served on many boards, charitable organizations, as well as civic duties including: the California Chamber of Commerce (Chairman 2002), Director of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Trustee Emeritus of the California State University System, and Founder of the Stickel Christian Foundation. He was active in politics and served at local, state, and national levels.
He was fiercely passionate about family, friends, and his faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and especially the 4th of July in Coronado!
Tom is survived by his two grown sons Ryan Thomas (30) and Bradley Charles (28) with former wife Tracy Blackburn, and his sister Barbara Stickel Carter.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2pm at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coronado, CA.
