William DeVito

DeVito, William 10/09/1926 ~ 06/24/2015 SAN DIEGO -- William V. DeVito was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 9th, 1926 to Frank and Rosa DeVito. After graduating high school he served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He moved to San Diego with his family in 1948. In 1955 he built the Grand Car Wash in Pacific Beach with his brother-in-law and ran the business successfully until 1963. With partners, he entered the insurance industry and founded Alcott Insurance Agency forming lifelong friendships with insurance company executives and clients alike. Bill retired in 1996. Family always came first for Bill. He was an excellent cook and never missed an opportunity to share his famous lasagna with family and friends. An avid sports fan, Bill followed his team, The New York Yankees, rarely missing a game. Bill coached baseball at Pt. Loma Little League and was beloved by his players. He supported the league and its players until his final days. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara, Marie and Elaine. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jessica, daughter Lisa Saunders (Brian), son James (Lucy), two granddaughters, Amelia and Julianne Saunders, two grandsons, Stephen and Christian DeVito, nieces, nephews, their children and their grandchildren. Services will be held at 11AM on July 9th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ocean Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of William V. DeVito to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
