Anne McGlynn

Anne McGlynn Anne McGlynn was born in Oakland on February 11, 1942, and passed away peacefully on November 6, 2017. Anne was the oldest of Jim and Barbara McGlynn's eight children. She is survived by her soon-to-be 100 year old mother; her two sisters and five brothers: Louie Mettler (Bill), Susie, Pat (Ann), Tim (Yasuko), Terry (Mary), Ken (Eileen) and Larry (Dee). She is also survived by her twelve nieces and nephews: Allison Dennett (Pete), Matt (Amy), Brian (Megan), Kevin, Katie (Terrence Cummings), Erin Sperling (Adam), Sara Jones (Eliot), Joe (Maria Pitt), John, Kate (Andy Magas), Mike and Jill (Tyler Thesman); and ten great-nieces and nephews, all of whom brought her great joy. Anne attended St. Augustine's grammar school, Holy Names High School and Armstrong Business College. She worked in the advertising business much of her professional life. She married George Goldman in San Francisco and they worked in the City as well as Chicago and Los Angeles. They regularly travelled to Europe where they enjoyed dining at various five star restaurants. After Anne's divorce, she continued to travel with family and friends. For the past 10 years, she and her sister Susie made yearly trips to Northern Italy where they also enrolled in Italian classes. Anne lived for a year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and then returned to her home in West Hollywood. She ended her professional career as an editor for the Jet Propulsion Department at UCLA. Upon retiring, she resettled to San Luis Obispo where she spent fifteen wonderful years. Anne was active in many different social/political activities. She frequently and thoughtfully wrote 'Letters to the Editor' at the Tribune. Ann was an advocate for children with the San Luis Obispo CASA program. As a result, she maintained a close relationship with all her CASA kids until her death. In January 2013 Anne was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Thanks to her oncologist in San Luis Obispo she was referred to Dr. Bruno C. Mederios who enrolled her in two different clinical trials. Bruno and the Stanford Cancer Center staff enabled Anne to live almost four more years than expected. Anne recently relocated to Merrill Gardens in the Rockridge area of Oakland where she enjoyed her short stay with many new friends. There will be a Celebration of Life on Anne's birthday, February 11, 2018, in San Luis Obispo. Details are still to be worked out.
