Bill Broadbent

Bill Broadbent William R. Broadbent (Bill) was born in November 1934, in Hollywood, Calif. and died on March 11, 2015, in San Luis Obispo. He was the son of Sidney R. Broadbent, M.D. a Hollywood emergency doctor to the stars and Irene Ibell, a pianist for silent movies and music teacher. Bill attended junior and senior high school in San Fernando Valley and Pierce Community College before transferring to Cal Poly. He graduated in 1956. He then enrolled at Cornell University at Ithaca, N.Y. and received his M.B.A. in 1959. He decided to return to San Luis Obispo and chose to enter the field of real estate. Within a short time he and Ed Arnett established the firm of Arnett and Broadbent Real Estate, Inc., a relationship that lasted 50 years. Bill was President of Arnett and Broadbent, Inc. (1963-2009); he is a past president of San Luis Obispo Association of REALTORS®. He specialized in investment, exchange and counseling. Mr. Broadbent was a nationally recognized innovator, educator, author and lecturer during his real estate career. He helped pioneer the concept of single agency. He was a member of the Society of Exchange Counselors (SEC) and a Certified Commercial Investment Member of the National Associations of REALTORS® (CCIM). He leaves his partner of 37 years, Sandra Jenkins and his golden retriever, Maggie. Cremation has taken place, burial will be at sea and Bill asked that there not be a funeral service.
