Craig Davidson Obituary

Craig Paul Davidson succumbed to colon cancer after a three-year battle Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Craig was a generous, kind, fair man with an unwavering love for his family and friends. Born in July 1948, he was a lifetime resident of the Central Coast. He attended San Luis Obispo High School and was later drafted into the U.S. Army. He worked as a corrections officer for 26 years and retired in 2008. Craig had a deep love for music, loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer. He touched the lives of many people in his 62 years and will be dearly missed. Craig is survived by his children Erin Leigh Crotts of Atascadero, Matthew Allen Davidson of San Luis Obipso and Jason Riddle of Sunnyvale, Calif.; grandchildren Khyier Craig Davidson of Atascadero, Zach and Ella Riddle of Sunnyvale; brother, Bud Davidson (Wanda) of San Luis Obispo; aunt, Nancy Blell of San Luis Obispo; cousin, Dick of San Luis Obispo; and long time companion and partner, Nancy Marsh of Atascadero. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Margaret Davidson and father, Clay Paul Davidson. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast for their love and support during this difficult time, and request that any donations be made to this wonderful organization.

Craig, with his intuition and experience, kept us on track. We miss his guidance and company but the memories of his perspective still help us through challenging moments. He was a happy, loving, fun person to be around. I think of him many times every day. He will always be in my heart. I am so grateful to have had him in my life. Thank you to everyone who was close to him in the last months of his life. Matt and Erin worked so hard. I will never forget your attention to him.
Much love,
Nancy

To know Craig was to love him. He was a very wonderful, kind, and talented person. "Best Dancer Class of 1966" and the best dance partner I've ever had. I miss you my friend.

Dear Craig's Family: I have never met you, however, I knew Craig through my long time friend and his long time partner, Nancy Marsh.
I have followed the progress of his illness these past three years through Nancy's eyes. I want to commend his children for their courageous and loving care of their father. And most of all, to commend Nancy for her 3 year commitment and devotion to the day to day struggle, including the very last breath. It took the three of you working together and probably a few other family members and friends to pull this off- allowing Craig to be home with his loved ones around him. Craig had the best care he could have ever wished for. Watching you go through the past three years, Nancy, has taught me that you do have the strength to go on now without Craig's presence here. You are an incredibly loving, kind, generous, super woman with unfailing courage. I know you will continue to hold the memory of Craig and your love for him in your heart for the rest of your life. Blessings on all of you weary time travelers.

Dear Family of Craig: I have never met you, but I knew Craig through my long time friend and his long time partner Nancy Marsh. I have followed the story of his illness, especially these past three years, through Nancy's eyes. I want to commend his children for their very generous and loving care of their father, especially during those terribly difficult last few weeks and days. And most of all, to commend Nancy for her 3 year commitment and devotion to helping Craig and his children through the day to day struggle including the very last breath. You are an incredible caring, loving, woman with super strength both physically and emotionally. It took the three of you working together, and probably a few other family members and friends to pull this off. Craig had the best care he could have ever wished for. I feel honored to call you my friend. Watching you go though the past three years taught me that you have the strength to continue on now without Craig's presence here. I am sure he will live on in your heart for the rest of your days. Blessings on all of you weary time travelers. Simone Malboeuf

Every girl in Craig's class remembers him from our seventh grade dance lessons. Cute, charming and incredibly funny, he was a definite distraction to our beginning ballroom dance steps. In high school, he rocked out and stole the show in "Bye, Bye, Birdie." Years later, I reconnected with Craig in Atascadero when I had the pleasure of being his son's kindergarten teacher. Matt was a little Craig and kept me laughing all year.

My heart aches knowing Craig is gone. The world has lost a wonderful man.

Love and sympathy to all of Craig's family and friends,
Kathy (Toone) Romera

Nancy, Dick and Kathy,

In sorrow but with many, many happy memories we reflect on the crazy adventures we had with Craig, Bob and Dick. Even a story or two with Aunt Mary at Bull's. His generous spirit will be missed.

Bye, Bye, Birdie,
In loving thought,
Bruce and Krissy (Whitecap)

I went to SLO H.S. with Craig. He was never a "clique" kind of guy but was friends with people from every walk of life. As fate would have it, we were both drafted on March 3,1969 and ended up in the same Basic Training platoon at Fort Ord. He was easily the most popular guy in our platoon because he was low key and down to earth and the rest of the guys appreciated that. I never heard him complain a single time while we were there. We crossed paths at Chalk Mountain over the years and my daughter Lyndsey even dated his son Matt for awhile. Sorry to see you go my friend.

To Craig's Family and Friends,
Our sympathy, prayers and good thoughts of Craig go out to you. We remember him as a young boy playing in our neighborhood and growing up through the years with our family of girls. He will be fondly remembered.
Sincerely,

I have many many fun fond memories of Craig (not that we called him Craig) - life in the San Luis 70s was exciting and crazy and Craig was such a central part of it all. He was one great guy.
