Fernando Castillo Obituary

Fernando O. "F.O." Castillo passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in Los Osos, surrounded by his loving family. Fernando was born in April 1931 in Woodville, Calif., to Preciliano Ruiz Castillo and Catalina Orduno Castillo. Throughout his life, Fernando was devoted to his family and dedicated to providing a good life for them. Upon completing his education, Fernando learned the deep-rooted work ethic that carried him through the rest of life. In 1965, Fernando began to work in a cabinet shop in Porterville, Calif. He learned the woodworking trade. He enjoyed it and eventually earned the reputation as a master wood craftsman and carpenter. After moving to Cambria, Fernando accepted a job at the Hearst Ranch in San Simeon. During the 30 years from 1968 to 1998, he worked closely with the Hearst Family and Jack Cook, of Circle C Ranch in Cholame. Evidence of his skillful work on the ranch remains today and includes the remodel of various homes and adjacent structures in San Simeon. One of his most notable accomplishments includes the building of the Hearst Dairy Barn, which the ranch uses today to host various events. After he retired, Fernando enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing stories and being an inspiration for all who loved him. The Castillo family would like to thank Central Coast Hospice and Rose Garden No. 2, in Los Osos for the wonderful care provided to Fernando. Fernando is survived by his daughters Catalina Castillo Rau (Ves deceased) and Angie Castillo Peterson (Wayne); and sons Fernando V. Castillo (Betty), Joe Castillo (Helga), Diego Castillo and Anthony Castillo (Sharon). He is also survived by his brothers Raymond Orduno Castillo (Mercy) and Ignacio Orduno Castillo; sisters Margaret Castillo Chavez and Susana Castillo Lopez (Victor); 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Fernando was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Norma, whom he had missed dearly since her passing in 2004; brothers Preciliano and Jose Orduno Castillo; and sister, Elizabeth Castillo Carrasco. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Myers Funeral Home Chapel, 248 North E St. in Porterville Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 378 North F St., with internment at the Woodville Public Cemetery, 17203 Avenue 168 in Woodville, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Coast Hospice, 253 Granada, Ste. D, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. Big Daddy,
Thank you for loving me and treating me like I was your own daughter. I thought of you as my own father and you were happy to fill that roll for me and I will forever be grateful to you for that. I will always cherish the times that we would giggle over silly things and share a dessert that maybe we shouldn't have been eating, but did it because we just couldn't resist it. Anth and I will always remember those two weeks where nothing mattered but you. I cry because you're gone, but I am happy that you have finally been reunited with Your Normita.
I love you - Pinky

Dear Catalina, Fernando, Joe, Diego and Angie,
My very heartfelt condolences to you and all of the Castillo family. I am so very sorry that my mom (90-years old) and I could not be present at Tio Fernando's funeral services, but I am sure you understand our circumstances and forgive us. I will always have fond and happy memories of Tio Fernando stemming from the time when he and my Tia Norma were dating. They were teenagers and I was their 5-year-old chaperon. I hope you will come and visit us whenever you are in the area. We would very much love to see you and your wonderful families. Love always, Jandina (Maria Ramos) – San Jose, CA

It has been many years since my visits to the Castillo home in Cambria, but I have many fond memories of kindness and warm hospitality. May God bless Fernando and take him into heaven. He is now united in heaven with his beloved wife, and all other family who went before. May the Lord grant healing of broken hearts and consolation to the entire family grieving their loss.

Angie, Anthony, Diego.. everybody.. I am very sorry for the loss of F.O. He will be missed. He was such a wonderful part of my memories in growing up, always seeing him around the Hearst Ranch, painting, hammering, often with your mom in tow in the van. Often they would drop by for coffee or lunch with my folks in San Simeon and shoot the breeze. I always remember he was smiling and laughing and he had such a kind heart and spirit. It's a rare thing. I can say for sure that he raised awesome kids that I was so lucky to go to school with, always the nicest one's in the bunch, always ready to be a friend. I was so honored to know him, your mom and your family and am here for you if you ever need me. Much love to all of you and healing to you all. May he live in your hearts forever.
