Guy Kirby Obituary

Guy Kirby Guy A. Kirby passed away with family by his side on October 9, 2014, just shy of his 63rd birthday. He grew up in Grover City, graduating from Arroyo Grande High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. Guy was a naturally gifted athlete as a youngster; he loved to fish, hunt and free dive. He spent childhood years camping with family and friends. He worked in the medical X-Ray field for several years before moving to Monterey County. He was acquainted with people from all walks of life and loved his close friends in the Big Sur area. Guy participated in the Jade Festival for years, and he had a creative side and was interested in science. He continued to fish, dive for a number of years, and BBQ often for his friends and family. Guy was able to go fishing one last time with his buddies Rocky and Keith. Guy is preceded in death by his father, Guy E. Kirby and step-brother, Bob Sheppard. He is survived by his step-mother, Mildreene Kirby; brother, Steve Kirby (Linda); sister, Linda Kirby (Dick Oliveira); step-sister, Karen Edmunson (David); step-brother, Richard Sheppard and nieces, nephews and extended family. We extend our deepest gratitude to Congressman Sam Farr and staff for making it possible to have Guy with us during his last months and also thanks to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, Dr. Brian DiCarlo and staff; Infusion center of San Luis Obispo; Wilshire Hospice; Dr. Vigginelli and staff of San Luis Obispo V.A. Clinic; Dr. Goldzweig and associates of the Greater Los Angeles V.A. and Mission View Health Care in San Luis Obispo. Guy is deeply missed by his family and friends. He chose not to have a public memorial service. If you wish to make a donation, please consider Hospice, Veteran's Charities and nursing facilities. "I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life; To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the winds like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover; And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long tricks over." I am saddened to know that Guy has passed from this world. I met Guy in Pismo Beach when I was visiting from Tulare. I was 13 years old and had an enormous crush on him. My family moved to Pismo from Tulare in 1971 and I would talk to Guy frequently. He was such a sweet, kind and understanding man to a young girl with a crush on him. See you again sometime Guy. My condolences to his family.
