Harold Roy Redden

Harold Roy "Ole" Redden, 89, passed away at his home in Baker City, Ore., Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 . Ole was born in Dunsmuir, Calif. in 1924, and the family moved to San Luis Obispo in 1928. During his childhood, he and his brother, Bob, had several money making small businesses, including delivering newspapers and chopping and selling firewood. Ole developed his love for animals when the family got its first dog, Wimpy. He was a regular volunteer at the San Luis Animal Shelter for many years.   He attended Fremont Grammar School, San Luis Obispo Junior High School, San Luis Obispo High School and graduated from Cal Poly with a Civil Engineering degree.  Ole had a lifelong career working with the Division of Highways (Cal-Trans).  He was a member of the San Luis Obispo American Legion Post 66 for over 30 years. He was well liked by all that knew him and supported many organizations in the community. As World War II was active, Ole joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier in the South Pacific as an Aviation Machinist's Mate, Third Class. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to fish, snow ski and played golf his whole life. Ole was a member of the San Luis Country Club for over 20 years and shot five holes-in-one! Ole is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kathie" Ann and her children; daughter, Beverly Hale (Darrell) of Sumpter, Ore.; son, Larry Blessing of Santa Barbara, Calif.; brother, Bob Redden (Libby) of Victorville, Calif.; sister, Nancie Murakami of Fremont, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ethel Redden; and sister, Elizabeth. Ole will be missed by his family and many, many friends. No services are planned.
