James Allen Obituary

James W. Allen passed away peacefully Friday, May 25, 2012 at the age of 87. Jim was born in Chicago, Ill. He attended the University of Arizona, where he later became Alumni Director. Jim and his wife Laurel Ewing, whom he always regarded as the smartest woman he ever knew, attended the Hollywood Presbyterian Church, where they married in 1955. Jim was an elementary school teacher in Redondo Beach, and he was in charge of the audio-visual library for Kings County Schools. He was also the owner of the Cambria Stationary Store for many years. One of Jim''s interests was raising and racing greyhounds in Tijuana. While he loved good food, symphonies, and books, his real passion was baseball. He was a real "Angel" fan and a baseball historian. Jim was a unique personality who will truly be missed. Jim and Laurel are survived by their two children Sharon Harvey (Ken) and James L. (Jeanette). A memorial service will be held at 2p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 at The Samarkand Chapel, 2550 Treasure Dr., Santa Barbara, CA 93105.

I have fond memories of Jim when he and I worked at Coast Union High School. His great smile and vast knowledge of baseball history made him one of my favorite people to spend time with in Cambria. My deepest condolences to his family.

I have fond memories of both Jim and Laurel. Many days at Hearst Castle when Jim worked there. The stationary store, the needlework shop and later the chocolate shop. Laughing, giggling and many jokes were shared. A lot of history and helping in the community of Cambria. My condolences to his family.

Cambria Merchants will all miss Jim and Laurel. They were both involved in the celebration of anything "Cambrian." I wish their children the best memories that we all shared during those glorious years in Cambria.
