Joseph DiPietro Obituary

Joseph J. DiPietro, 84, of Paso Robles, son of the late Ercole and Maria DiPietro, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in Templeton. He was born in February 1925 in Introacqua, Italy, and came to the United States when he was nine years old. He resided in Buchanan, N.Y., where he played six man football and participated in track.

Joe Joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 making it his career. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and was the recipient of 15 battle stars and 15 campaign ribbons including a bronze star.

Joe was successful as the owner of a State Farm Insurance Agency in Santa Clara. He raised thoroughbred horses on his farm locally and devoted his later years to raising grapes and making wine which he shared with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son and a daughter; sister Mary A. Perez of Courtland Manor, N.Y. and brothers Harry of Courtland Manor, N.Y. and Ralph of Fishkill, N.Y.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Paso Robles. Burial will be at the San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine, Calif.
