Marissa Smiley Obituary

Marissa Ann Smiley, 15, of Paso Robles and a 6th generation San Luis Obispo County native, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Twin Cities Community Hospital.

Marissa was born in January 1992 to Paul II and Leslee Smiley in San Luis Obispo. She started her academic career at Georgia Brown Elementary where she was enrolled in the dual immersion program. She played soccer (a fearless goalie!), excelled at softball and loved tennis. At Flamson Middle School, Marissa played on the basketball team and was proud to be a peer counselor. She also enjoyed being an assistant coach for her little sister's ball team. Marissa had just completed her freshmen year at Paso Robles High School.

Marissa's favorite pastimes were camping at Lake Nacimiento with her family, creating MySpace sites and playing games on the computer with her cousins. She had just begun to show interest and talent in sewing.

She is survived by her parents, Paul II and Leslee (Alger) Smiley; siblings Wyatt, Gage, Shilo, Ryann and Shayne; grandparents Rodney Smiley, Barbara and Rudy Rowlett, Grandma Lou and Grandpa Tom Bowie; great-grandparents Paul Smiley Sr. and Imogene Rowlett Thixton; uncles Jason (Raquel) Smiley, Will Smiley, Aaron (Angie) Rowlett, Jared (Kara) Rowlett, Don (Kathy) Alger and Chris Bowie; aunts Terri (Rick) Alger, Jennifer (Jeff) Sorenson, Kayla (Chris) Bowie; great aunts Suszanne Smiley, Kathy (Tim) Johnson, Lorrine Alger, Denise Gallagher, Sheri (Dennis) Slaydon, and Yvonne (Jerry) Weiler; great uncles David Nielsen and Craig (Donna) Alger; and many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Cliff Alger; great-grandparents, Peggy Smiley, Frank (Donna) Boyer and F.H. (Stub) Nielsen.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Paso Robles District Cemetery. Please dress as Marissa loved to be '" comfy and casual. After the service, a celebration of her life will continue at 947 Walnut Drive in Paso Robles. Family and friends are invited to share the happy memories Marissa blessed us with.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund established at Heritage Oaks Bank in Marissa's name.

Dear Barbara and Rudy,

Our hearts were saddened by the news of the tragedy with your precious granddaughter. Our own little Kennice was so proud to share a birthday with Marissa (she told us so many times!) and that will always be something special. I know you have many special memories and someday your heart will let you smile again. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for any of you. All of our love to all you...

My dearest Paul & Leslee - I am so far away and unable to wrap my arms around you. My heart aches with you. I once whispered in Marissa's ear that she was my favorite great-niece because she was the first and she just grinned at me in that special way. We have been so blessed to have had her, even though the time was far too short.
All my love to you...Aunt Kathy

My sympathy and love go out to Marissa's family, friends and all those who will miss her. She was in my Peer Class at Flamson Middle School. I loved her, too. She was funny, bubbly and always had a kind word and a smile to give. She was a hard worker and gave so much of herself to others. She and other Peer students would come in my room to just "hang out." We got to know each other pretty well. She will be missed. I thought the world of her. My sincerest sympathy.

What do you say to someone at a time like this. I cannot begin to imagine or fully understand what pain you must be feeling. Marissa was such a blessing to so many people. I was so proud to be at her funeral service and see the huge crowed of people and listen to all the stories of how funny and amazing she was and how many people her life had touched. She certinaly touched mine! I am equally touched by the strength and overwhelming support that you and paul share for eachother. You are amazing. My heart swells with sadness for your loss But finds comfort in the way you too are so unconditionally there for eachother. I watched you reach out for one another through out the day following the service and i know togehter you'll make it through this. I'm sure it will not be easy. I am here to help in any way i can. You have an awsome family. I know Marissa is your personal angel watching down on all of you. Your family is in my heart at this sad sad time!! I am thinking and praying for you all. All my love and friendship

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. Our deepest condolences are with you as you grieve. We will miss her too.

Dear Smiley and Rowlett Families, I am so sorry -that doesn't even begin to describe the loss i feel for your families. Leslee, you will remember me as MEgan's cousin, Shannon, I lived on Vine Street when you and Paul did too, i was on VIne between 8th and 9th-- I used to sy Hi all the time when you went by with Marissa in the jogging stroller. I saw her grow up over the years at get-togethers between Maduena and Rowlett families. Marissa is the the oldest grandchild of the oldest child in Paul's side of your family, the first one the grandparents had all to themselves, I too am in this same birth order on both sides of my family, all children have a special spot in their families, Marissa was the little pioneer in the big Rowlett-Smiley family that exists today. I remember Marissa - as the spitting image of you with Pauls round face and wide smile - a beautiful combo - for sure. As a mom, I can't even begin to fathom what you both must be going thru as parents, please know that while you may rarely see me, I am there for you, your children, anyone who could need a helping hand or anything thru this time. I live on a big ranch and if kids want to come ride bikes or fly kites or anything pleawe let me know - we have lots of open space for whatever. I will see you at the services tomorrow. My love to both you and Paul - your children and all the Smiley-Rowletts, and your family too Leslee, ( i don't know your maiden name) Leslee - I don;t know you well - but all that i do know of you spells 2 things ---STRENGTH, and SUPERMOM, i know you are these 2 things and much more - my love to all of you.

I'm gonna really miss her. I remember when we went to the bowling alley after our 8th grade dance. She looked really pretty I might add. I bet it was hillarious to watch us try and bowl in our nice dresses and high heels. She laughed at me so hard when I tried to get a strike, but ended up halfway down the alley in the process, but in the end she fell the same way I did a few minutes later. I am really gonna miss marissa. I give your family the most sincere regrets. She was a wonderful girl and a great friend. My prayers are with you.

Words cannot express the sorrow we felt when we heard of your loss. It seems like yesterday Marissa was the little freckle faced girl running around the ball parks. Or when she was real little, standing in her dad's out stretched hand for all the world to see. Our boys remember that one and send their prayers. She became such a beautiful young lady.
Our deepest condolences,

6/16/07 Marissa Smiley. You'll remain in our hearts forever. We will always remember you, we will always love you. Love does not end with death. You're special spark you added to life will never fade. It's hard to accept the fact that you're gone, and it would be a whole lot nicer if you just called or talked to someone and they told me you were alive. Just smile for us one more time. I rember you made me laugh everyday I remember your gorgeous smile every time i saw it i couldnt help but smile back. I remember at lunch everyday you would get a burrito and fries and you would eat the burrito from the center instead of the normal way then you would chuck it in the planter cause it tasted gross and we would eat your fries haha <33 And when the fries were gross we would through them at ppl or you and jojo and jazz would through them at me and kent :) haha. ohh && the 8th grade party! that was the best. dancing with ritz and scotty and tiff and everyone.and then going to the bowlling alley untill like 12 at night. I remember i let you use my book for mr.harveys class almost everyday becuase you would forget yours somewhere. And your silly faces :P and your silly stories.Good times Good times...I keep thinking that im gonna see you soon and that this is all a horrible dream that i cant wake up from.you may not have given me a summer to remember but you sure did give me a year to remember. I know ull always be looking over us. I guess u dont realize how much u love some one until u lose them.I love and miss you chicka. I miss you more each minute life goes on without you.
