Michael Maysey Obituary

Michael Maysey
August 20, 1948 - January 29, 2023
Grover Beach, California - Michael Keith Maysey passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital in Arroyo Grande, California. He was 74.
Born on August 20, 1948, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Michael was the son of WR Maysey and Rita Maysey. The eldest of 2 sons, Michael graduated from Coast Union High School in Cambria in 1966.
After high school, Michael served in the United States Navy, US Submarine Force, on the USS Spinax, SS 489. He was proud of receiving his Holland Club Membership for being qualified in submarines for more than 50 years.
On April 8, 1977, Michael married Donna Marie Fawks Montano in Carson City, Nevada. Michael was a devoted husband. He loved and respected Donna wholeheartedly and they were best friends, always doing everything together.
Michael was also a loving and supportive father to his son, Michael Maysey, Jr. He actively supported and encouraged his son Michael's many interests growing up. He inspired his son's love for fishing and camping, and was his son's biggest fan when he entered the field of professional land surveying.
Michael spent over 35 years as a Lineman and Troubleman for PG&E, retiring as an Electric Crew Foreman in 2007. It was here he acquired the nickname "Maddog."
Michael had many skills in life and an unfailing sense of humor. He will be remembered especially for his quick wit, goofy jokes, and unsolicited commentary. He endured many health issues in his retirement years, including cancer and strokes. Despite these challenges he was always cheerful and upbeat and happy to see family and friends.
Surviving family members include his mother, Rita Maysey; his loving wife of over 45 years, Donna Maysey; his son, Michael Maysey, Jr., and his wife, Danielle; brother, Jeffrey Maysey, his nieces Kayla, Ashley, and Whitney, and nephew Wyatt; cousin, Jim "Bones" Carlson, and his wife Pat. Wife's side: Patty and David Leopold, Susi Curtin, Mia Fawks and nephews Eric, Dan and Patrick. Michael was preceded in death by his father, WR Maysey.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his family, but they know he will continue to watch over them and live on in their hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Woods Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.

Donna, I've been trying to contact you to say how deeply saddened I am that Mike is gone. As you and I know, after the loss of the "Moms", the path forward it is full of stones and potholes - my thoughts are with you and all family and friends. I keep thinking of you and Mike practicing the "kiss" scene for the play....over and over. Keep all those happy moments close.

Dear Donna, family and friends of Michael,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Michael“s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Spinax (SS-489).
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
Donna and family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).

Mike, Debbie and I are going to miss you, my friend. I'm going to miss your smile and morning greeting; "Good morning Ken, how are you!", each morning at Dinosaur Park. That is just after you finish your free morning cinnamon roll from your friends at Old West Cinnamon Rolls.

Mike, Donna was at the park this morning, feeding your pet sea gulls, bunnies and rats. After our walk, I used the brush you brought me, to brush off the bottom of my shoes prior to getting in our car, it reminded me again of you.

God Bless my friend
