Otto Maahs Obituary

Otto Carl Maahs, 91, passed away Monday, March 7, 2005, at Sierra Vista Hospital of San Luis Obispo. He was a kind, funny, gentle man and loved by all who knew him.

A small celebration of his life for neighbors and family will be held the afternoon of Sunday, March 13, at 46 Las Praderas Dr., San Luis Obispo. His earthly remains will rest in the Maahs family plot in Anaheim.

Otto was born in Anaheim April 28, 1913. In 1991, he moved to San Luis Obispo to live with his son and family. While his last years with grandchildren and new friends were always a comfort and joy to him, Anaheim was his true home.

Otto was a longtime member of the Anaheim German Baptist Community Church. It was there he met his wife of 11 years, Annamarie Sauer. They married just before he left for England to serve in World War II as a mechanic with the 13th Division Photo Reconnaissance Squadron.

Upon Otto's return, they had their only child, Frederick Otto Maahs. Otto worked for many years as a refrigeration technician with the Foremost Dairy Company of Los Angeles.

Otto had lifelong passions for tinkering with cars, swap meeting and collecting. He will be remembered as a good son, caring brother, fun uncle, loving husband, nurturing father and dear grandfather.

Otto is survived by his son, Frederick O. Maahs, daughter-in-law, Meredith; grandchildren, Collin and Leia; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Lorraine Maahs of Anaheim; and many nieces and nephews of California, Colorado and North Carolina.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or The Villages of Sydney Creek Alheimers and Dementia Care Community, where he spent the last year and a half of his life under the excellent care of the nurses and staff who so

lovingly cared for him during his last days.
