Nipomo, California - Pat Sullivan, born and raised in San Francisco, died peacefully at home with family by his side on November 30, 2021. Pat was devoted husband and best friend to Bonnie for 54 years, loving father to his daughter Sheila of San Francisco and son Michael of Berlin, Germany. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren, Lauren and James and by his brother Jim and his family.
Pat had an esteemed career as a sportswriter for the San Francisco Chronicle and covered golf for many years. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School and San Francisco State, he worked for United Press International and Rolling Stone magazine before joining the Chronicle.
Pat cultivated relationships and cherished his friends throughout his life and career. He was a true gentleman, avid gardener, wine aficionado and passionate golfer. Pat loved telling stories almost as much as hearing them. He relished his years growing up in San Francisco's Mission District, but more recently, deeply appreciated the open spaces and fresh air of the Central Coast. Pat was proud of his service as a driver for Ride On/United Cerebral Palsy where he met fascinating people while exploring the beautiful back roads of San Luis Obispo County. He also enjoyed volunteering on the 'chain gang' at NHS football games, working as a docent at the SLO railroad museum and offering his expertise at writing workshops.
