Paul Joseph "Pablo" Schmitt

Paul "Pablo" Joseph Schmitt, local restaurant owner and resident of Cambria for the past 13 years, died early Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his home, after a lengthy illness.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the family home in Cambria.

Paul was born June 1, 1940, in Buffalo, N.Y. and his restaurant career spanned over 30 years and covered territory from the East Coast to the West. His favorite locations included Vermont (The Whole Enchilada), Hermosa Beach (Martha's 22nd Street Grill), Cambria (The Redwood Cafe, Lombardi's Pasta Familia and Pablo's Mexican Restaurant), and most recently, Paso Robles with the opening of Lombardi's East. He was a resident of the Central Coast for over 15 years. The enduring testimony of Paul's life includes a wonderful spiritual heritage and the treasured memories of his family, countless loving friends and church associates, who will miss him dearly.

Paul is survived by his wife of 20 years, Liz Bannon; son, Pete Schmitt; daughters, Vianna Bannon and Lela Beauchene and husband Dan; grandson, Braiden Beauchene; sisters, Susan and Marilyn Schmitt; and former wife and spiritual mentor, Judy Schmitt.
