Sylvia Alvarez Obituary
Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband of 40 year, Cesar G. Alvarez Sr.; parents: Agapito Cruz Sr. and Manuela G. Ibarra, brother Agapito Cruz Jr. and step father Servando Ibarra Sr. She is survived by her sons: Melvin Cruz (Amy, grandchildren Melvin Jr, Melena, Noah, Maddyson, and Cesí) and Cesar Alvarez Jr. (Lissette, grandson Julio); daughters: Isabel Alvarez and Alma Alvarez (Kenny, grandchildren James and Elvira); brothers: Antonio Cruz (Rosalinda) and Armando Cruz (Maria Rodriguez); sisters: Sulema Cruz (Trinie Gonzales), Rafaela Cruz and Sandra Hightshoe (Jerry Jay); and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends in New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico.
Sylvia worked for over 20 years at Gary Job Corps Center and TEF in San Marcos, Texas. As an Air Force Wife, her and the family traveled the United States and lived in California, Alaska, and Missouri. Sylvia and Cesar loved to attend dances at the Cuauhtemoc Hall and Fiesta Ballroom.
Visitation will begin from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 6:30p.m., at Los Angeles Funeral Home, 300 Cheatham St., San Marcos, Texas. Morning Visitation (following day) will begin at 8:00a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Los Angeles Funeral Home then followed with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, Texas. Interment to follow at 1:30p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers: Melvin Cruz, Jr., Jason Gonzales, Adrian Gonzales, Trin Gonzales, Matt Wood, and Kyler Mayberry. July 6, 1954 - October 17, 2025
