Thomas Meadows Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) F. Meadows, Jr. of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on November 21, 2024. He was born on September 4, 1935, in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Thomas F., Sr. and Ila M. Meadows.

Tommy was preceded in death by his first wife Nelda M. Meadows, his parents, his sister Joan Singleton, his son Michael Thomas Meadows, and his second wife of 42 years Jackie A. Wood Meadows.

He is survived by his brother Clint; sons Mark (Barbara) Meadows, Alan (Debbie) Meadows, Les Wood, Randy (Paula) Wood, Scott Wood; daughter Missy (Randy) Kirby; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Tommy moved from Beckley, West Virginia, to various cities in the southeast, including Norfolk, Virginia; Miami, Florida; Crestview, Florida; and Webster, Texas. He finally settled in San Marcos in 1951, where he lived the rest of his life.

He was married to his first wife Nelda for 26 years until her passing from cancer. In 1982, he married Jackie Wood, who had also lost her spouse to cancer. Their union was a testament to unwavering devotion and served as a model of love and commitment to their family and community.

Tommy graduated from Texas State University in 1961. He was employed as an auditor for the Office of Inspector General, US Department of Agriculture (USDA). He then served in the US Army for 2 years before returning to the USDA. Tommy also worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, retiring in 1985. He went on to become the first internal auditor of Hays County in 1990 and was later promoted to assistant Hays County Auditor, retiring for good in 2005.

For nearly 25 years, Tommy served as an elder at the San Marcos Church of Christ where he and his wife Jackie were faithful members. He played a pivotal role in establishing the local work and was always generous to those in need. He and Jackie often opened their home to college students who needed a place to live. Tommy sacrificed much for his family over the years, always putting their needs above his own. But above all, he always put God and the church first in his life.

A funeral service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held at the Chapel at San Marcos Cemetery on Saturday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Magnolia Hospice.
