Akria Dooka Obituary

Akira Dooka passed away at a local convalescent home in Santa Cruz Friday, June 3, 2011. He was 86 years old. He was born on March 3, 1925 in Gardena, California. He was educated in Japan then moved back to California in 1940. During WWII he was in interned in camps mainly Topaz and Tule Lake. After the war he settled in the Bay Area where he got married and started a successful flower nursery business. Then he started a family and he moved to Soquel in 1965, continuing to grow flowers for over 40 years.

Mr. Dooka enjoyed his family, fishing in lakes and the ocean, going to casinos and eating, working in the Garden, watching Japanese TV and Movies, and tells stories about his life.

Mr. Dooka is survived by his Wife of 57 years, Michiko Dooka; Daughter, Karen Matsumoto [Calvin] of San Jose; Son, Alan Dooka [Misuk] and Grand Children, Aki, Ken, Christina, Nicole and Shelby and relatives in the Japan and United States.

Memorial services will be held at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, June 11, 2011 at 2:00pm. Private burial will be held at a later date.
