Daniel Kryst Obituary

Daniel Kryst
Resident of Santa Cruz
Daniel Kryst passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014, in his home surrounded by loving family after a difficult battle with cancer. Dan was born on May 9, 1956, in Santa Cruz, CA, to Richard and Nancy Kryst.
Dan began his career as a journeyman carpenter in the Santa Cruz area, and continued in this profession after moving to Murphys, CA, with his wife, Beth (Keeler) Kryst in 1986. He also became a Contractor around this time. He loved making and fixing anything, spending time with his family and many friends, camping, the outdoors, his many pets, and helping others. He had the best smile ever, and was well known for the positive power of it. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Beth (Keeler) Kryst, his two sons, Michael Kryst and Kyle Kryst, his mother, Nancy (Nerney) Kryst, his brothers Barry Kryst, Dale Kryst, and Terry Kryst, his sister Norah (Kryst) Hogue, and eighteen nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Kryst, and two brothers, Doug and Mathew Kryst.
There will be a celebration of life for Dan sometime in the spring of 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Calaveras Humane Society or Hospice.

You were always a sweet guy in high school, and that big smile...who can forget. I'm glad we reconnected in the later years, even though it was on social media. You always had something positive to say. That was you and how you'll always be remembered. You were loved by so many from the San Lorenzo Valley, and will never be forgotten. I'll say an extra "Happy Birthday" to you on our day, May 9th...We lost a bright light here on Earth, but Heaven gained a brilliant light of goodness when you arrived. We'll all miss you, terribly.

Dan was my brother in law and is deeply missed by my sister, Beth, and their two sons, Michael and Kyle. Dan was the best! He was funny, charming and always smiling! He was also very kind and he helped our parents, who are in their 90's, do so many things many times and still kept a sense of humor! Our family loves him dearly and we are so sorry that he left this earth so young with so much left to do! I am thankful that he is now at peace and out of his body that was racked in pain. We miss him and think of him daily and there to support Beth and the boys as much as possible!

Dan is my brother in law and he is deeply missed by my sister, his wife, Beth and thier two sons. Dan was the best! He was funny, charming, and always smiling! He helped our parents who are in their 90's so many times and was another brother to all in the family! He left this world way too soon but he is no longer in the pain that robbed his body of any peace at the end. I know we will miss him dearly and think of him daily!

Dan, you are one of the people I remember most, growing up in the SLV. Remembering how in Junior High, that you were one of the tallest in our class & how positive your outlook. You always seemed happy & content. I enjoyed our last outing, the semi reunion at Harvey West, where we caught up on the times; how you brought back the imagery from our era of our youth. Those are memories that will stick with me throughout, as I know it did for you. I will miss you, and am only regretful that I didn't connect more with you. I had no idea of the battle you were going through, as I remember that we had corresponded on social media, then you weren't there. I thought that you were burned out on it. Anyway, I know that you are in a good place & send condolences to your family, as I know they miss you. I know that when I see a bright star in the night sky, it will remind me of you. Thank you for all of your support, from the tough times of the past.

My deepest condolences to the entire Kryst/Keeler ramily. Dan and I go back to early elementary school (Miss Fritz' class was the first I think). He was a world class guy. I thought about him a lot at the 40th class reunion. Miss Fritz attended, and I know from a FB post that he would have loved to be there.

I had the pleasure of meeting his mom at a pancake breakfast at Highlands Park a couple of years back. It is easy to see where he got his spirit. Being called home is never easy for loved ones to process. But it is clear you have a great guardian angel now.

Nancy and Beth, my heart goes out to you. I didn't know Danny was even ill until Norah called. Danny stayed with me for several months in early 1999 right after I retired and he was working on Mills Hospital extension. He was such a sweet man and I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him. With love from Cousin Susan

Was shocked to find that Dan had died. We grew up together in the Valley and he would stop in to visit me when in town. So very sorry to hear of his passing. Many fun memories. My sincere sympathy to the whole family. Buttons Smith
