David Gomez Obituary

David passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Wednesday November 3, 2010, after a battle with cancer, he was 52. David was born August 26, 1958 in Dinuba, CA to David and Beatrice Gomez. He was a resident of Santa Cruz for over 45 years. He recently retired from AT &T after 32 yrs. David's favorite hobbies were baseball, fishing off the Santa Cruz Wharf, and barbecuing for family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time on the Delta with his cousins. He was a diehard 49er and SF Giants fan. He took great joy in watching and coaching his children's little league teams. David had a great sense of humor and loved teasing his nieces and nephews.

David is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 28 years Gail, his daughter Christina, son Danny, and grandson Troy; his siblings: Gina Wally Correa, Suzie Jason Burtis, Paul Helen Gomez, Marta Patricio Camacho, Rosie Pedro Hernandez ,and Betty Alvarez. He is also survived by 3 aunts, 3 uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Although David will be greatly missed by family and friends, we take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven reunited with his loved ones who preceded him in death his mother, father and beloved brother in-law Graciano Alvarez, who also battled cancer.

Funeral services will be held Friday November 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Garden Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, followed by a graveside committal service at Oakwood Cemetery, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd, Santa Cruz, CA 95065. David came to play on my Little League Cardinals team when he was just ten. He was probably the nicest, hardest working, most coachable kid I had in fifteen years of coaching. He was an excellent catcher and helped anchor our team to two consecutive league championships. I remember thinking at the time 'this is one great kid - he's gonna be OK..' I hadn't seen David for years, but I miss him a lot.

Gail and Family,

I am so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Dave and I shared a lot of laughs along the way whether it was Harbor Baseball, water skiing at Pinto Lake or taking in a Ted Nugent Concert at the Cow Palace. I will miss him terribly and although we hadn't seen each other for years, I often thought of Dave and what a wonderful family life he had. May you, your family and everyone who knew Dave and felt his incredible love of life find solace in knowing that he is at peace.
