David Kelly Wood

Resident of Santa Cruz
David Kelly Wood passed away March 24, 2015 at his home in Santa Cruz. He was 81. Kelly was born in San Francisco on December 30, 1933, the son of John Morgan Wood, Sr. and Margaret (King) Wood. He grew up between San Francisco and Big Trees Ranch in Felton. He attended Saint Joseph's Military Academy in Belmont. Kelly joined the U.S. Navy immediately following high school and served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. Following his military service he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from University of San Francisco. Upon returning to Santa Cruz he obtained a real estate license and joined his stepfather, Glen Coolidge in business. He later went out on his own and started Kelly Wood Realty, he also owned and operated Valley Mini Storage, started in 1980 to present. After many years working in local real estate he retired and with his wife Mary moved to Tucson, Arizona where he enjoyed many years of warm weather and playing golf. After 13 years he and Mary returned to Santa Cruz in 2008.
Kelly was a founding member of the San Lorenzo Valley Little League. He was also instrumental in their financial solvency. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed annual fishing trips to Mexico with his son David and dear friend Mark. He also enjoyed travelling especially numerous trips to the Big Island of Hawaii. He was a member of the San Lorenzo Valley Lions Club, the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge and a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Wood of Santa Cruz; his son, David Wood of Santa Rosa; daughter, Carolyn DiMarco and her husband Chad of Huntington Beach; his four grandchildren, Meghan Wood and Shane Wood of Santa Rosa and Cole DiMarco and Chance DiMarco of Huntington Beach. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Burkett of Sacramento and one niece and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church, 5953 Highway Nine, Felton, CA on Tuesday March 31, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Felton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions are preferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Dominican Hospital NICU, 1555 Soquel Dr., Santa Cruz, CA 95065 or to your favorite charity.
