Dea B. Coombes
Nov. 11, 1926 - Aug. 15, 2021
Dea Coombes, formerly of Aptos, passed away on August 15 in Walnut Creek. She was 94 and the daughter of Col. Leonard and Grace Beardslee and a second generation Californian. She was married to Jim Coombes for 60 years, a former captain for United Airlines.
Dea graduated from University of Redlands in 1948 and taught elementary school in Los Angeles for several years. She lived in Aptos for 47 years and was an outgoing person with many friends locally. Dea loved to play bridge and do crossword puzzles (in ink, of course). She read extensively about California history and enjoyed visiting local sites and points of interest.
She had a discerning eye and collected antiques, particularly Staffordshire china, and pursued this hobby locally and in her travels to Europe with her husband. Dea was a volunteer at Mission Santa Cruz, the Dominican Hospital Auxiliary and as a driver for the American Cancer Society.
She leaves behind three children and two grandchildren who will miss her very much. They are: Laurie Treleven and spouse Richard; Jack Coombes and spouse Kate Shea, their son Zachary and his family; and Julie Hollinger and her partner, Mark Roberts, and daughter, Naomi.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at Valhalla Cemetery in North Hollywood, CA. Commemorative donations can be made to Sutter Care at Home, Attn: Gift Processing Center, PO Box 160045, Sacramento, CA 95816. View the online memorial for Dea B. Coombes
