Dorothy Brasfield Obituary

Dorothy M. Brasfield
May 15, 1922-Dec. 6, 2012
Resident of Scotts Valley
Dorothy M. Brasfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning December 6th of natural causes. She was 90 years old.
Dorothy has made her home in Scotts Valley since 1958.
Dorothy was born and raised in Port Clinton, Ohio on May 15th 1922. Following graduation from Port Clinton High School in 1940, she attended Toledo University on a scholarship. After completing her studies, she worked in the accounting department of the local utility company where she established a reputation of always balancing her books to the penny.
After 10 years at the utility company, Dorothy decided to make a dramatic change in her life. She packed her bags and moved to San Francisco. Dorothy immediately found work at a currency exchange company and thoroughly enjoyed the next 6 years living in 'The City'. She often commented that these were some of the most enjoyable years of her life.
In 1957, Dorothy met her future husband, Samuel Burke Brasfield. They married in 1958 and began their life in Scotts Valley. They were married for 45 years until Samuels passing in 2003.
Following their settlement in Scotts Valley, Dorothy worked for many years at a tax office in Santa Cruz.
In the 1970's, Dorothy and Sam created Scotts Valley Rockery which they owned and operated until their retirement in the mid 1990's.
Dorothy is survived by two brother-in-law's, Cary Cochrell of Los Gatos and Ray Brasfield of Portland, along with several nieces and nephews.
