Douglas Hinds Obituary

Douglas Scott Hinds
Oct. 2,1957 - May 24, 2013
Resident of Scotts Valley
Douglas Scott Hinds, 55, of Santa Cruz, CA, passed away at home on the morning of May 24, 2013 from ALS. Doug was born October 2, 1957 in Massena, New York, to Jack and Ruth Hinds of Scotts Valley, CA. Doug was the 2nd child and the oldest son in a family of 5 children. The family settled in Santa Cruz when Douglas was 10 in 1968. Doug graduated from Harbor High School in 1975, and after graduation and some course work at Cabrillo Jr. College, he started in construction, working for local contractors. Doug was 22 years old when he got his contractor's license March 30, 1981. Over the years Doug established a number of companies, on his own and with partners, including his brother Dwight. He leaves Hinds Framing Services, as his final legacy, with his son Jason. Doug was a lifelong builder, contractor, a passionate duck hunter, a fisherman and outdoorsman, a great hand and eye with a shotgun, and a lover of cowboy history and art.
Douglas is survived by a large and close family; Doug and Lori Stoll raised 3 sons, Jason (married to Yusni), Jared, and Troy. Doug and Kathleen Hinds shared 2 children, Zon and Jessica. Doug leaves his parents, Jack and Ruth Hinds, and 4 siblings, Sally, Drew, Dwight and Terri, along with nephews, nieces, extended family, fellow fisherman, hunters, buddies, and friends.
Services for Douglas are Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 am at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos, CA with a reception afterwards. Please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com to light a candle for Doug and share any condolences with his family.

I just heard from a high school classmate that Doug passed away from ALS. I could not believe it. Doug and I were friends at Harbor High. When I attended our 20th high school reunion, Doug and I talked and laughed about high school! Seems like yesterday. God Bless you Doug.

My prayers are with Doug's family. I remember so much about Doug and all of our many hunting trips when we were younger. Work building Intel facilities took me away from close contact with Doug, but the memories of the time we spent together are always with me. Doug was like my brother. May God bless his family and welcome him home.

Dear Jack, Ruth, and family,
It is to your Doug's praise that he was the first person to witness to me about his Lord & Savior, having gathered the courage to speak. Doug remains in my memory as one of the kindest, truest friends I'd ever known. What joy is his now! I will continue to pray for your family's comfort and strength.

Doug was a neighbor on Juan Pablo and our kids played endlessly while Doug and I watched, sometimes joining in. He loved his boys and I offer my sympathies to all the family on this sad occasion.
