Douglas Brian Potter
October 9, 1964 – October 2, 2015
Resident of Ben Lomond
Douglas Brian Potter passed away peacefully on October 2, 2015 after a 3 year battle with cancer, one week shy of his 51st birthday.
Doug was born in Santa Cruz on October 9, 1964 to Calvin and Sharon Potter of Santa Cruz. He graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1983. In 1990 he married Sandra and together welcomed a daughter, Rebecca, in 1992. He worked for Seagate for many years and as a Computer Technician for Santa Cruz Electronics for the past 15 years.
He loved working on the home improvement projects around the house and wanted to make it better. A week before he died he was thinking of a new front gate for the driveway. He just didn't want to quit and take it easy. He loved traveling with his family, the many camping trips they took in the family trailer and the cruises to Alaska and Mexico. He also took trips with friends, Eddie and Mariel, which included a lot of bike rides, weekend getaways to Indian casinos, Vegas, Laughlin and local hangouts. He had planned a 25th Wedding Anniversary trip to Niagara Falls and New York, but unfortunately had to cancel due not feeling well. Doug loved going the movies and enjoying a beer or two with his best friend, Eddie Camacho. He also loved making his own costumes, giving ideas and helping his daughter on her own costumes for conventions they would go to. He was a loving father and husband and he will be dearly missed.
A casual gathering and potluck to remember Doug will be held at the Seacliff State Beach picnic area on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11 AM. Please dress comfortably, bring a dish for everyone to share and a folding chair or blanket to sit on. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County (
